Author Notes: Happy Birthday chernobylbeach! ♥

Looking around his office, Lucius leaned on his cane far more than his age required him too, and struggled to keep breathing. Parchment was strewn everywhere. And not everywhere in Narcissa's language, when he'd left a few coffee cups around the Manor and she made him sleep in one of the guest rooms for a night. Everywhere in the literal sense. Over every surface, every piece of furniture, and somehow stuck to one of the windows with a green substance Lucius would not be investigating any time soon.

Some of the parchment was drawn on, some was crumpled up, and some had what looked like peacock-prints over it. Looking around, Lucius leant on his cane a little harder when he saw the peacock curled up in the corner of his office, fast asleep.

At the epicentre of this mess was his four year old son. Draco had ink in his hair, ink on his robes, and ink smudged over his chubby little face. Scrambling up, he tottered over to Lucius, holding out a piece of parchment.

"S'for you!" Draco's sentence structure was still lacking some, but Lucius didn't bother correcting him. Holding out his hand, he took the parchment and held it up, examining the streaks of ink and something sparkly that he was almost certain was a favoured bracelet of Narcissa's.

The bracelet formed a long line over the parchment, and a peacock feather - Lucius felt a pang of sympathy for the poor creature - was stuck at one end. Two blobs of ink, which almost resembled people, were sat on the bracelet, and one was bigger than the other. It was only because the ridiculously expensive gold ink Lucius had bought was splayed around the top of the blob that he realised this was a depiction of him and his son on a broom.

He'd taken Draco on a broom for the first time the day before, hovering a foot from the ground and flying very slowly over their lawns, holding Draco tight as Draco squealed and demanded they go faster.

Looking down, Lucius felt his lips twitching when he saw Draco beaming up at him. His son had such a sweet smile, looked so angelic with his fine blonde hair and bright eyes. For a brief second, Lucius knew that when his son was older, he would be a force to be reckoned with.

But for now, Draco was content to be Lucius' baby, and Lucius was content to let his mask slip and be nothing but a father.

"This is lovely. Why don't you help me pin it up?"
