here It had been a resolution yelled out drunkenly, to the raucous laughter of his friends as they celebrated the New Year, and vodka being on three for two in the local shop. Though he had consumed at least a bottle, and couldn't remember much of the turn of the year, Draco did remember being stood in the kitchen with Blaise, getting very vocal about how Charlie simply couldn't be a Weasley, as he was far too good-looking.
When Draco had taken on the job as book-keeper for the dragon reserve, he had expected to spend his time staring at numbers, not Keepers. And then Charlie had walked past the window, and Draco had found himself hooked.
Holding onto his resolution, Draco raised his hand and knocked on the door to the little bungalow Charlie occupied on the reserve.
"Hey, Draco, good Christmas?"
"Yes, thank you," Draco answered, balling up his courage and getting straight to the point. "I wondered if you'd like to go out on a date with me?"
Charlie gaped back at him, clearly surprised, and Draco waited for the older man to work through his request, forcing his features to remain calm.
"Well… that was surprising. What is this, new year, new Draco?"
"Yes."
"Oh. Right." Charlie paused, and Draco was just beginning to fear a knockdown when Charlie smiled broadly. "Well, I can get on board with that. Does the pub in the village at seven tonight suit you?"
Smiling, Draco nodded. "Perfectly."
