For the last 2 or 3 months, I've been fighting a horribly inflamed attack of gout in my right foot. As that gradually subsided, both my feet and legs began hurting at the connection of each little bone or cartiledge. I've been unable to walk part of the time, and almost unable to walk the rest of the time. My right foot, and now both of them, swells out of the shoe twice a day: before my nap, and before bedtime. I can't take off my right shoe just any old time, because I'd never get it back on. May I sigh and whine, now, please? I am not supposed to be using my NSAIDs, because they abet bleeding in my colon; as a result, I'm using a helluva lot of pain meds, and I'm sleeping at horrible times and for horrible lengths of time!
One very good thing: I have been so unable to walk much of the time that I haven't been able to cook, so I've lost 50 pounds. THAT didn't hurt me a bit! I'm trying to keep that up. I'm still walking with a cane - even in the house, and I'm using the walker a little, but I don't feel I have the right control of that, yet. I've improved enough that today, I actually walked part way across the kitchen without the cane. But my balance still sucks, so I'm going to be pretty cautious about all that.
My little helper bee, son of my friend Tresa (I have doubts about this last, also - the friend part) has turned into a real pre-teen, and will no longer come up and help me with trash or cleaning. Tresa broke her pelvis three months ago and is just now able to walk carefully without assistance, so they've had their troubles, also.
I would give my eye teeth for an inexpensive service that would pick up groceries and sundries for me. The man who used to be my neighbor, Clyde, has been of great assistance, even delivering Diet Cokes to me in bulk so I don't have to handle the weight. I'm unable to deal with the kitty's litter pans, because my balance is so poor - I can keep up the one in my bathroom, but that's all. The cats have gone manic - misbehaving in almost every sort of way. I cannot keep up with them any more. They deserve better. Miss Pink left for 2 months, and then returned, but has left again... I don't know if she'll ever return. :(
We are finally having a break in the heat! This weekend, lows in the 40's and highs in the upper 70's! And only a few degrees higher all this week, as I understand it! Thank goodness!
Enough grousing... thanks for reading. I hope meer didn't read this all because I've been as morose as *he* has been, and he's been really ill over the past few months. I've been little or no help. Great friend, I am...
Did I mention I've been carrying a fairly consistent 2 degree fever for about a month? I think it's finally tapering off a bit! Hallelujah! Those Blue Cross folks who were going to try to help me by bringing together various sorts of assistance, gave up on me, They say I really have too many different things wrong to make progress in any of them without more money. (I can't afford co-pays, and so forth..)
I will admit that I was on the verge of throwing in the towel for living independently for a bit - until Marty came by last night, saw how horrible my condition was, and said I was going to have to leave this house and find something easier. Just walk away from the house and my cats. Oh, sure! :( That changed my mind a bit. Besides, I do feel a bit better today.. *grin*
