Man, I miss the good old days of Canadian politics, when the best shot the Western Conservatives had at a house majority could lead his party from the seat of a Sea-Do. He was an expert at making signs and knew how to use them skillfully at the most opportune times, even if he couldn't recognise a bad acronym to save his party. And he united a country in an unparalled movement towards referendum; we rose up in one voice and we sang:
Que sera, sera...
Doris Stockwell? I miss you.
Because when you were around, Chretien was still in power, and he knew how to stand his own ground, stick to Canadian values, and how tell Bush where to take his war. Back then, the Quebecois were almost liking Canada, nobody cared how Alberta felt, and the East knew that a little bit of orange mixed well with red. And all sides, all comers, mocked you freely.
And we were strong. We were proud. And we had
excellent beer commercials.
Now? I don't even know what to think about it. I want Harper gone, but the Liberals aren't inspiring any confidence these last few years days. (I'm looking at you, Dion. And you, Martin. Yes, I'm still pissed off about that.) And the NDP will never get their chance to screw this country up. We'll have yet another election soon, no doubt. And hopefully there will be some change, because if we don't start following through with our promises? Canada will end up on the international shit list. We can't rest on our laurels for much longer.
Sorry for the multiple posts, friends. I'm a chatty person. :D
