To everyone who saw my meltdown post the other day and commented,
I know that I am not alone and I thank you, all.
Exerpt from Everybody Hurts by R.E. M.
Everybody hurts. take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. dont throw your hand. oh, no. dont throw your hand.
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone
Now that I have that behind me, this is the deal. I know that the key to pulling myself out of the funk is to decide.
That's it. I decided that putting that out there about my troubles over the last year is like putting it far away where it no longer has control over me.
I decided to count my blessings every day and live in the moments of
kindness and beauty that happen throughout my day.
In the last two days I have used my Pilates Machine two mornings in a row and did hand weights and standing yoga poses and stretches out on the deck surrounded by trees and birds and squirrels. I decided this is a great way to start my day. And in 2 days my posture is already better because of the emphasis on the core muscles. Right on!!!
My hubby asked if I thought that I could climb this mountain with him, and I told him maybe if it was a goal for the end of the summer it would give me something to work toward. The only other time we tried to climb this 10,000 peak was on a 4th of July and we got caught in a friggin' snow storm. So that is a goal. I decided that in the end of September I am hiking with him to the peak, it is a 5,000 foot elevation gain over 5 miles. Roundtrip 10 miles.
A few years ago, my husband and I and four male friends backpacked and hiked to the top of Mt. Whitney which is the highest peak in the continental U.S. at 14,495 feet. So, doing a little 10,000 peak should be nothing.
I decided that I need to do interim things, now that I am physically able to, to reach that goal, so I am going on a fairly level hike Saturday or Sunday morning along the river which is a 5 mile roundtrip. I'll hike to the waterfalls and eat my lunch and take my camera and if I am lucky might be able to take some pictures of kayaks or rafts going over the falls. If I get any good ones I'll post them. I'll also harvest some bay leaves that grow along the trail and dry them and keep them in my kitchen for cooking.
This morning I saw on my book shelf the entire series of Anthony Robbins tapes for his Unleash Your Personal Power 30 Day Program. I did this several years ago and it was great for getting focussed on the things that help you reach your goals. I decided that I should listen to this program in my car and do the written exercises each evening. I put it in my car and have started listening to it already. :)
I decided now that I don't have a physical disablity (well, other than asthma) I am going to work on myself every single day and put myself first. I decided that I am going to set realistic and achievable goals and
specific steps needed to reach them.
I decided that this will be my best year ever!!!
