Title: Down the Aisle
Author: Sofipitch
Series: Brotherhood
Word Count: 433 (I love that I take “open” as a chance to write less. *sighs*)
Rating: PG-13 (kinda; language)
Characters: Riza (strongly hinted Royai), Rebecca
Summary: Riza knew what her father would’ve done.
Warnings: Technically AU
A/N: My best friend doesn’t get along very well with her dad. She’ll have strong feelings for this. I might get punched. This still didn’t come out the way I wanted it too though. :\

“From what you’ve told me, your dad was a bit of a dick to you.”

Riza twitched as Rebecca brushed her hair to the side. There was something about being told to hold still that made you want to move more than before.

“He wasn’t that bad. He wasn’t outwardly mean, he just had a habit of forgetting anything but alchemy existed.” There was still a tired sigh lingering behind her defense.

“It’s just,” Rebecca said, fighting Riza’s words with an annoyed tone, roll of the eyes, and hip cock. “You’d think,” Rebecca removed a bobby pin with a small crystal flower ornament on the end, “that you being the only family he has left he would completely devote himself to not losing you.”

“People have different ways of mourning. His was alchemy.” Riza shrugged.

“Stop moving!”

“Sorry.” Riza didn’t think that Rebecca had to make such a fuss, but she let her play stylist anyways. Rebecca clicked her tongue, Riza wasn’t sure whether it was at what she said or her moving, but either way, she brushed it away with a roll of the eyes.

She relaxed her shoulders and stared ahead at the reflection in the mirror. Ten years ago she would’ve never imagined that she would be getting married; there where even days on the battlefield where she didn’t think she would make it to the age she was now. But the white silk dress that hugged her frame and engagement ring still obvious and proud on her left hand’s ring finger told her otherwise. Riza couldn’t help feeling like a princess from some fairytale, the fact that she was marrying a soon to be president fuhrer making her all the more exciting.

Riza would never admit to any of that though. She would end up sounding like Rebecca.

“I think he would come,” Riza finally said. Rebecca raised an eyebrow. Riza corrected herself. “Reluctantly. He wouldn’t respond to the invitation, but he’d show up. And he’d complain about having to if anyone tried to approach him.” Everything she said was said softly.

Rebecca shook her head. She had taken her judgment, Riza could tell. “He wouldn’t walk you down the aisle.” Rebecca’s nose was pointed upwards.

Riza smiled. “He’d say it’s a stupid tradition.” He’d know he wasn’t really giving away anything. Roy was just making it official that she was his. Riza knew and understood this. Even without him there, she knew exactly what he would’ve done. You don’t get to choose the people you know, nor the ones you love.

Rebecca just didn’t grow up with him.
