After the crash

I was browsing the entries for National Geographics Photography Contest 2010 and this one from Judy Starkman would be my favorite so far.
It's called "After the crash" and she writes about it:
"My dear friend, Laura, fell from the sky. The helicopter she was traveling in crashed into an open, dry field and burst info flames, killing three of the six passengers on board, including the pilot. Laura survived, but barely. She was burned, crushed, and near death. She broke 45 bones. She was pulled from the burning wreckage by her hair. To this day, she still cannot walk. While there wasn't a part of her body that was unharmed, her spirit and determination to live a full, happy life remains stronger than ever. This image taken in a lush, green field is meant to signify her rebirth."

Misbachul Munir: "Indonesian Old lady sitting on her kitchen just waiting for nothing in her daily empty life,
since her son & daughter are living in other city."

Natalie Keyssar: " Violinist Adriane post walks across her Brooklyn roof top".

Maryanne Yeary:" I took this picture at an eye glass clinic in a small town in the Ukraine. People have gone with poor eye sight
due to no services. Here, a doctor is hired for a day and travels to treat patients who excitedly enter the room in hopes of receiving glasses."

Susan Ledgerwood: "I love capturing moments when no one is watching, yet it is impossible to look away.
The moments that unite us as humans. I love everything that's happening separately and together in this one moment."

Ryan Hoover:" Traditional Indian Kathakali theater performers apply their makeup on stage, in preparation
for the evening’s performance. Kerala, India"

Kai Fagerström

Bharat Bindal:" While trekking from Mcleodganj to Triund, I heard something following me. I turned and to my relief it was a goat.
It walked right up to me. I moved a step back and it moved a step forward. I began clicking away as we continued playing this game and
I was lucky to capture this very funny expression. Taken in Kangra Valley, Himachal Pradesh, India. September '09"

Robert Love: "A blacksmith almost disappears in clouds of smoke as he shoes a horse at a farm in East Sussex, England."

Marcos Furer: "A lonely tree. Landscape of Northern Cordoba, Argentina. Very few trees are left in an extended area
where soybean crops and farming are destroying the natural habitat of the ALGARROBOS ( argentine name for the tree)"

Patrick Lienin:" While hiking at Jasmund National Park in Northernwest Germany, a rain storm passed by and created a
stunning scene! The sea was completely flat and the only thing out there was the tiny sailing boat."

Katrin Koenning:" Man and Bird. A man sits quietly on a wall in front of Federation Square, in the city center of Melbourne, Australia."

Greg Meier: "While my friends and I sipped tequila and played poker one evening on the Baja Peninsula, the restaurant at our hotel caught fire. We joined a group of guests throwing buckets of water through a flaming door until a ragtag crew of volunteer firefighters arrived. The next morning, we explored the wreckage. The air was damp and smokey. I snapped some pictures, including this one of sheets drying in the sun, framed through a burned out restaurant window."
