@YinChi is my address. :)
YinChi will also be my new LJ name - it is made if you want to start adding me now. I won't switch over quite yet though.
Today has been fantastic. I have an honest to goodness massage client. She gave me a "tip" since I'm not allowed to charge and then told me that her sister, cousin, and friend were all interested in coming to see me as well. Yahoo! I honestly haven't planned on having a private practice; I have two or three things in mind to do which will all be part-time and flexible but add up to a nice income. I guess I can see some regulars on the side as well.
Then I overheard a caller on Tom Martino. A lady was upset because she'd gone to the home and garden show this past weekend and a massage school had a booth set up. Thank goodness it wasn't my school. She sat down and informed them that she had a port for chemotherapy in her chest and for them to beware. The student got incredibly nervous and said they couldn't work on her. The lady was obviously upset and asked to speak with the supervisor.
The supervisor told her they couldn't work on people with "contagious" diseases. Obviously cancer is not contagious, the lady misspoke. But apparently they handled it very badly and were obviously upset which made this poor woman upset.
Now they were right. We are told NOT to massage people with certain conditions (they are called contraindications which is probably what the supervisor was trying to say) unless they have their doctor's permission. Cancer, diabetes, whole body rashes, those sorts of things - massage can actually make cancer worse by spreading it from a localized place to the whole body. NOT something you want. So they were right but explained it poorly. I called to set the record straight and it was fun.
I love my career and I haven't even started it professionally. I have such passion for helping people and I am excited to see where this leads me. I am not set in stone as far as my "ideas" on where this will take me; I know the universe too well. Life is what happens to you when you are busy making other plans. I'll take it as it comes and go with the flow.
