Fanart - Bat-verse [Dick Grayson]; Fanfic - Bat-verse [Bruce, Dick]

Should maybe have shrunk this down a little. *sheepish*

Just a head-shot of Dick Grayson from the Batman universe. First attempt at drawing him. It began life on the back of my Modernism notes and then I decided to scan it in and practise using the pen tool in Photoshop. Then I decided to experiment with colouring in solid blocks of colour, which I think might have been a bad idea. I'm happy with the lineart, anyway.

And here, have a little bit of the AU Batman fic I'm working on that this picture's based off [no, the picture isn't related to this part]:

Dick picked up a pen and twirled it idly. Knowing that Bruce had recognised him made him feel the strangest he’d felt in a long time. He wasn’t even going to try and figure out what blend of emotions he was feeling, partly because there were too many to try and sort through, but mostly because he was terrified of what he’d find. And he was in no mood to try and figure out feelings, he’d had enough of that back when his parents had died and everyone was telling him to express his feelings -

“You came to my last show?” he asked, so that he wouldn’t have to think about anything else. He noticed that he was gripping the pen far too hard and consciously told himself to loosen his grip.

“Yes,” Bruce instantly replied, sounding relieved. Dick supposed that had been yet another long, awkward pause there. “I’d always intended to check up on you, but work kept getting in the way. Then I heard that you were going to do your last show, and I figured - enough was enough, the company could handle itself for a few days, and I flew down to watch you. You were spectacular.”

“Thanks,” Dick said through a suddenly dry throat. “I - Bruce, I was never able to thank you for what you did.”

“Knowing that you’re healthy and relatively sane is enough,” Bruce replied wryly. “I know how it feels to know that your parents’ killer is walking free.”

“They haven’t -”

“Not yet.”

“I’m sorry.”

“So am I,” Bruce said, some sort of emotion in his voice that Dick didn’t want to analyse.

“If there’s anything you need from me, Bruce,” he said suddenly. “I’m yours. Have been since I was eight. And -” he laughed ruefully. “I probably sound like some demented stalker. But really. I owe a lot to you… and to Batman, but I doubt I’ll ever see him again. So, ah, y’know. Anything at all.”

“Anything?” Bruce repeated slowly. Dick made an affirmative sound, idly twirling the pen he held.

“Then let me take you out to lunch?” Bruce asked.

Dick dropped the pen.

Still needs editing, but meh. Just a rough idea.
