Fandom: Bat-verse
Pairing: Bruce/Dick.
Rating: PG-13
Warnings: Me having fun with the boys. So maybe slight OOC? Hey, how would you react in that situation?

ladybugkay gave me this prompt: This one is an idea I've had bouncing around for a while, but I can't seem to write it, so maybe you can. Bruce and Dick are at some kind of costume ball for a charity or ( Read more... )

*sighs contentedly* See, that was my problem. There were way too many ways this could go, and I couldn't quite make up my mind.

Okay, so the first one: loved it! Loved Bruce's inarticulate response and finding out that Dick had done it all of his own free will. Loved Tim so very much for laughing out loud at the first sight of Dick in all his old Robin glory, and for saying this, “Except I think you broke him.” Hilarious.

The second one: it might be a little bit awkward, but it was still tons of fun. I love dialogue-only or mostly-dialogue fics, too.

More laughter. “Heh, Bat-blanket?”

And that, right there, that was priceless. (Thanks for the link to the fanart, too, which is adorable.)

The third one: oh, my god, I love you. I've never gotten over the fact that Bruce took Dick's nickname and gave it to someone else, so I don't know how Dick ever could - And then he gave the name to someone else and it was like I didn’t matter, just the idea. Bruce's reaction, here, his anger at Dick's supposed recklessness, is very true for the character, and I think Dick's response to that is entirely believable. Of course, I had to laugh at the words Bruce fled, because that image is just too funny. Only Dick can scare Batman. *g*

The things Bruce says about no one else ever working as well with him as Dick had me nodding emphatically, as well. I'm not that fond of Jason, but I love Tim, and yet I will always maintain that Dick was the best Robin. He's the one who created the role, who lived it for years, grew up in it, and who was one half of the Dynamic Duo. As good as anyone else may ever be in that persona, no one will ever be for Bruce what Dick was/is.

“See, no one else would ever do that,” Bruce said with a half-smile that wasn’t anything like a smile should be. “Wouldn’t want them to, either.”

...which is why I love that part so much. It's the thing I love about my OTP pairings, because there is something about that one person (Dick, in this case) that makes him uniquely right for the other person in the pairing (Bruce). And you've nailed that here so beautifully.

These are all great - thanks so much for adopting my difficult little bunny - but I think the third one is my favourite, angsty though it may be. :)

Yay! Glad you liked 'em~ <3

The first one: Thank you muchly! This was actually the first idea that popped to mind, which is odd because it's usually angst that first comes to mind with any prompt I get. *grins* I was a little worried about writing Tim, so it's good to know you liked him there. ^_^

The second: Hah, yes. I rather think it's awkward too, and I might revise it someday. That fanart was too adorable not to get a shout-out though!

And the third: *blushes* Thanks! I read Long Halloween, I think it was? And Dick said something about how his mum used to call him a Robin, and that's where he got the name from... and I just couldn't figure out how the hell Dick would let Bruce get off with giving his name to someone else. That's where the majority of the fic really came from.

The bit about Bruce and Dick being good for each other? I know I sound like a broken record here, but I'm really glad you liked that particular bit. I must have re-written it at least ten times - never could get Bruce quite right. You have no idea how relieved I am that you think it works! *flails happily*
