CITY UPDATES
With spring rolling over the island like a wave of pale green -- for the winters, while harsh in Soeldei, are relatively short -- warmer weather has returned. Although the nights remain cool, the rains have slaked and now encourage life to grow instead of trying to drown it. Everywhere you look there are happier smiles, kinder faces, and better temperaments.
Spring also brings with it the Council's new agendas, as well as those of the factions. The guildmasters, noting a sharp increase in the amount of new residents over the course of the winter, have started to take notice. Many of these new arrivals bring with them valuable skills, even extraordinary talents. They will be watching very closely, with the mind to encourage the non-natives to do their duty earnestly. Messengers will be sent out with particular requests, should certain people be catching the eye of the higher up. Spring is traditionally the time when many changes in status are given, promotions distributed, new responsibilities assigned. But it is also the time when people most often find themselves no longer feeling the loyalty and dedication to those factions who've taken them in.
Changes will be made all around, and they can happen quickly, but they remain part of the larger picture under the watchful eye of the Soel Aulic Council.
BANAUSOS
The Banausos are the primary money managers for the city, and no one wants the city to become strapped for cash, which impacts everyone. Every soel counts! One of the biggest draws on the island's budget are the public housing because they are free. Perform an informal census on the people using the open villas in the Anaxios, Psilos, and Mesos districts as well as the hostel, and make sure they're contributing to society.
BRAHMIN
Many of the new arrivals have ties to their homes which have not yet been severed. Soeldei, being an island nation, depends almost exclusively on the trade business of importing and exporting goods. As the diplomatic faction, the Brahmin are tasked with locating those connections to the lands beyond the sea and establishing a method by which the city may prosper and all may benefit from the luxury you're familiar with.
CABAL
In this time of brightness and light, it's hard to stay cloaked in the darkness. More easily are your deeds exposed, and so better to turn inwards and scheme between other members of the Cabal. Make a pact with another, one that benefits you both and gets you the attention of the faction leaders -- but be wary, for your new partner may be as willing to betray you as share in the prestige you both earn.
CONGERIES
The voice of the people is where the strength of the Congeries lay. The Council acknowledges that it is not always in touch with the common inhabitant of the island and may not understand their needs. Talk to the people living around you; what is it they need to make themselves happy, prosperous, and ready to serve the Council's bidding. The upcoming weeks will be filled with these projects.
HIEROPHANCE
As the spiritual guardians of the island, the Hierophance are also in charge of giving their blessing to civil unions as well. Spring bring marriages to sanction, new children to bless, business ventures to endorse, and much more. These are busy times! But the leaders of your faction will be looking not only for the tasks you perform but the flair with which you complete them; popularity brings prestige.
LEGION
The recent encounter with the pirates has left the Council wondering if defenses on the island are too relaxed, and the Legion is thus ordered to set up outposts at various points around the island, both on the city side and also on the back half of the island. Watchtowers are to be constructed, and patrols organized. Sentries will have to be assigned shifts in these towers, making for some long, lonely nights.
MAFIOSO
You can perform a service no others can; no one knows the city's underside better than the members of this faction, but even the Mafioso have their standards. You are tasked with rooting out those who might be considering their own illegitimate enterprises and reporting it back to the leaders, even if they're in your own faction. Change builds character! But it this case it might be just the upset that gets you a nod of acknowledgment.
VIRTUOSO
There has been an undeniable rise in lawlessness throughout the city, and the usual deterrents do not seem to be effective. It is thus the duty of the Virtuoso, as the legal representatives of the Council, to devise a suitable framework for crime and punishment. Stiffer penalties? Larger fines? Whatever is necessary to keep the harmony most prized in Soeldei. All ideas will be automatically submitted to the Council for consideration, so be brilliant and just.
