CITY UPDATES
Their ship fixed and re-stocked, the pirates have finally set sail, putting Soeldei behind them.
With the pirates being a rowdy bunch, and the residents not being able to prevent all their carousing, natives and new residents alike are justifiably glad to see them go.
It appears, however, that go without leaving something behind. The ship's captain, wanting to repay his brother for his help, had taken Doreius' journal and drawn a map into it. Drawn using magic ink the pirates had recently acquired, the map leads whoever is viewing it to their own personal treasure.
Little could he have known that anything written into the journals is transferred to the rest of the journals for others' perusal. In everyone's journals a copy of this map has suddenly appeared, leading each to the items they would most treasure on the island.
The problem with copies, though, is that they aren't the original. The maps in everyone's journals might change unexpectedly. This is more likely if the journal is closed, but also possible at any other time, as well.
With a handy map right to it, it seems everyone wants to find this treasure. How long before someone figures out there's more than one...
BANAUSOS
The only treasure worth drawing a map to is the traditional gold or jewels kind. Whatever the map leads to, it is probably expensive. News has filtered down that those high up in the faction would like to gain hold of the treasure. If you find it for them, you’re likely to both get part of the profits the treasure brings and some acknowledgment within the faction for your efforts. So get out there and look for it!
BRAHMIN
Looking for treasure has becoming a social event, whole parties being organized to look for it. The treasure itself isn’t terribly important to this upper echelon of Soeldei society, but the fun of it is, so none of these parties are all that serious about it. And how could they be, when no one can ever decide just which way they’re supposed to go to look for it? But have fun attending as many of these parties as you’d like.
CABAL
It seems the whole town is out searching for the end to this map. Teaming up with people from other factions could be the perfect way to find out things either about themselves or their faction. There’s time to hunt for the end your own map is showing without giving up your faction’s pursuits. Going along with what the other person reads in the map could benefit you in the end.
CONGERIES
This possible treasure is intriguing, but it shouldn’t be put before projects you’ve already started. Goods you promised to produce, buildings you’ve been reconstructing or refurbishing, or anything else you may have already been working on shouldn’t be put aside to follow rumors. That doesn’t mean your skills might not be called upon by someone hunting the treasure, so if they are, help.
HIEROPHANCE
The map seems to emanate a faint magical aura, and seeing how it’s sending people every which way seems to confirm the magical nature of it. The magically inclined faction is much more interested in the workings of the map than the treasure to which it might or might not lead. Study it and try to figure out what the spell on it is and what’s making it work.
LEGION
There might be a treasure around, but that’s not of much interest to this more military faction. There is a training camp that has long been scheduled, and it is recommended that all members should attend. It is only a few hours a day, so patrolling in the midst of all this treasure chaos with some of your extra time could help people safe on their quests.
MAFIOSO
There’s a list being passed around, coming from the leader of the faction himself, of people he wants roughed up. Normally it would be a difficult task to track these people down and get them alone. Now would be the ideal time to cross one or two people off the list, with everyone running around hunting these treasures. And if you happen to find treasure along the way, no one needs to know you kept it.
VIRTUOSO
Reports on the whereabouts of the treasure seem to lead all over the place. Collect as many reports as you can from the citizens of Soeldei, natives and new-comers alike, and try to see if there is any pattern to the locations to which people are claiming the map leads. Maybe if this is all analyzed, you’ll be able to find a way to track down the actual treasure.
