Replacement Radio

#Yal Dawo:

J’mus D’al (n.) (n.) radio; i.e., the medium;

J’mus Na (n.) a radio transceiver;
j'muss’e (v.) to transmit by radio: I could drop an entire article here about the problematic evolution of Sartine telecommunications due to the radio-signal-scattering nature of the gravity-defiant element Ceverabin but that would be a major sidetrack. What I was going to say follows:

WFUV 90.7FM (Fordham Univ. radio) had been a steady musical companion for what my old favourite WNEW-FM used to call the extended overnight time slot (2-5-ish A.M. Eastern Time). Until October, 2013 WFUV played a nightly music show called Echoes. which plays just the kind of music I’m into these days, progressive, ambient and what they used to call "New Age". NOT ANY MORE. Fortunately, they still play Irish music on the weekends becuase more contributors are throwing them money than they did for Echoes.

But now at night, my choices have diminished. Broadcast radio in the NYC ADI has lost all challenge and variety, and has turned into old chewing gum, and not even a particularly attractive flavour of chewing gum. There's WAXQ 104.3FM for classic rock and then there's nothing but the same crap served on different plates. THERE IS NO progressive music on the radio any more beyond New Sounds on WNYC 93.9FM, but that's just for ONE hour at night. Except for a couple of shows, WFUV has scuttled itself and turned into just another radio station. Worse yet, on TV they even took Mad Money off WNBC @ 3 AM.

Sadness. Yawning. Even Echoes.org the show's website commiserated when I complained about their departure the other week on Twitter. So until I can win MegaMillions® and buy a broadcast station of my own, I’ve adopted Maschinengeist.org Radio, found within iTunes® under the AMBIENT category. They do away with tired old gimmicks like singing, lyrics and rhythm. Instead, this is the kind of background audio you'd expect to hear inside a modern starship. Really. It's just the thing for when I need to shut up and get things done. I'll take this over Miley Cyrus any day.
