A/N: I'm not sure about this. I wrote like 4 and half pages in word and now I am trying to figure what to do next.
A day wasn’t enough for me to get over the shock about what has happened during the last night. I looked in my bathroom mirror, seeing strangely light blue eyes instead of my brown ones. Nothing else has changed - at least I hope so - only my eyes and the feeling deep inside me.
In my mourning routine I usually tripped over something on my way to the bathroom. This morning was different. I didn’t have any scar or even a bruise going to my bathroom. I was starting to think that something is playing with me and soon I will trip over something. There couldn’t be a day without me tripping over something. There was no doubt that I was one of the clumsiest persons in my high school.
Today was Monday. Another day in school where everyone would ignore me - I couldn’t wait for that! I wanted to see my best friend and that’s why I wanted to go.
It was maybe only two minutes later when I mother called from downstairs for me to hurry up and get to school. I heard the main door close and I already knew what was going on. She has been late for work, again. At least now my house was empty, only me. I took a last glance at myself in the mirror, hopping that the blue eyes would be gone but they were there. I took a deep breath and got out of the bathroom. Deciding to see how lucky I was, I ran to my bed. I was frightened when I came to my bed. It wasn’t because I didn’t trip. It was because it normally doesn’t take a second to get from one side of the room to the other. What the hell is happening to me?
Suddenly my bedroom doors opened a little bit. No one came in but I could feel that someone was there. I sat up on my bed and waited. I heard that the person took a deep breath before speaking.
“Bella?” it was Angela. “Are you alright?” She was slow, even for human, when she came inside my room. She didn’t come closer. Her eyes were looking at me, mostly on my eyes. I knew what she saw there but what I saw looking back at her frightened me. Instead of her light brown eyes, I saw the same color of eyes what I have seen in my reflection. She noticed my fear and sighed. “Bella, you don’t have to be afraid!”
“What?” Did she just tell me that? I don’t have to be afraid after I woke up and see that my eyes are in freaking light blue color. And I mostly don’t have to be afraid that I can cross my room in less than second? Was she kidding me?
“I knew this would happen soon,” she said and sat on the floor. “Have you ever heard about protectors?” I looked at her as if she was crazy. “There is a reason why I came to live to Phoenix but now it’s not the best time to explain. We have to get you ready for school!” She pointed at my eyes.
“Ang, what’s wrong with me?” I asked, it sounded like a whisper.
“There’s nothing wrong with you,” Angela sighed and took her bag in front of her. She was searching for something into the little pocket. “Ever have wore contact lenses?”
“No.”
“Then this will be your first time!” she threw me a little box and I caught it, for my surprise. I opened the box to see that they were brown contacts.
Angela helped me by showing how to put them in and we were ready for school. I was aware from what happened this morning - the way I moved faster - and Angela tried to help me step by step. By the time we were in her car I got it pretty well. Driving to school was quiet and we didn’t talk but that’s how it always has been. Ang was trying not to look at me every minute but she failed. I could feel that she was feeling many emotions right now. When we were finally at the school parking lot Angela parked her car in front and turned to me.
“After school we should meet here, by my car, that’s OK?”
I looked at her for a moment and nodded. I really needed some answers and school wasn’t the right place to give questions and receive answers. If you would like to know honestly, I didn’t want to know what happened. I was too scared to admit that something was different but I needed the answers and fast.
“Don’t worry,” she said, as if she had heard my thoughts, “I will answer after school.” I pushed a little smile on my face and was ready to get out of car when she called my name. I turned around to see Angela looking uncomfortable for a moment before she spoke, “You are not a human anymore, Bella. This day will be strange because your new powers are new and they will appear in the time when you don’t expect them. You should prepare yourself if someone talks to you because you maybe will hear what they think and feel how their emotions. Please, be careful and try to not answer their thoughts.”
Where the fuck I’m into? I screamed in my mind and Angela laughed.
Welcome to my world! I heard her familiar voice in my head and looked at her terrified. She smiled at me and continued to talk in her mind. I know this is strange but soon you’ll get used to this and everything will be fine. But don’t try to think bad things and wish something today. You don’t have full control for your powers because you don’t know what you can do.
I nodded and finally talked like a normal human, “That mind talking creeps me out. We have to go to class or we will be late.” We had almost every class together and that made my life easier from now on.
We sat together in every class and she was helping me with my new powers with instructions what is what and everything. Since my powers were just making their appearance, I felt them as strong as possible. I couldn’t tune out people thoughts in any class and, when it was time for Gym, I almost lost my mind by the emotions what everyone had today. I could feel their panic when they saw what we would do today and every emotion got into my head like I would feel like that. There were moments when I actually felt like that because of some strange things what Angela promised to explain for me after school.
It was end of the day and we were driving away from school. Angela was laughing at the thoughts what I had in my head. She has explained me that she has been waiting for months to see if I will turn into a Myth Protector.
“You don’t like when I speak with you in my thoughts?” she asked.
“Not really. It’s something new and it scares me but I will get used to it,” I smiled at her. At least, when teacher asked something, I didn’t have to think about the answer.
She laughed; I know where you got answers and that’s cheating!
I looked trough her mind. This was the thing what I could do. Lately I could see what a person has done in the last 24 hours and smiled. Ang hasn’t been an angel after all. She has been cheating every lesson.
Somehow she laughed more today and it felt normal. We now could talk about everything. She told me that she was quiet because her secret could be easily to tell to me since I was the one from a little friend crowd with what she usually talked. We were really close, so it made sense.
I didn’t know where were we going and I didn’t even try to look into her mind for the answer so, when we arrived to a big house what was settled a little bit out of Phoenix, I was speechless.
The house has one story and the walls were in desert sand color. There were two palms near the house. And then some plants around the corner wall what led to the entrance. Angela parked her car in front of big white electronic garage gates and turned off the engine. I climbed out of the car and looked around one more time before turning back to Angela.
We walked into her house and before I could even get out of my shoes, an older woman who looked similar to Angela came into the view. She smiled warmly to me and looked at Angela.
“Mom, this is Bella. Bella, this is my mom.”
“It’s good to meet you Mrs. Weber,” I said politely.
“Please call me Jeanette, and it’s nice to meet you too.”
“Mom,” Angela looked at Jeanette, “Bella has changed!” She nearly screamed it out.
“Isn’t that nice?” her mother smiled at me. “Angela will help you with your powers and, when my husband will get home, we will have a nice chat.”
I nodded and her mother went to somewhere, I believe to kitchen. Angela started walking toward some doors what I assumed was her bedroom. She looked at me for a moment before opening the doors and letting me in.
Her room was hundred percent better than mine. The walls in her room were white and mostly everything was in simple colors. There was a wooden floor and in the middle of room was a carpet in nice brown contrast. The bed was big and was in the center of the wall. Opposite her bed were TV and a table. Her room didn’t have anything from the green color but there was a plant in the corner of her room.
She sat down on her bed and looked at me for a moment. Like it? I nodded. I didn’t need to answer. She could feel that I loved this room. It was simple but at the same time modern.
“Then your room will be similar to this, if you would like,” she said.
“What?” I was confused.
“Yeah,” she sighed. When you changed, it was the start point when you would soon have to say goodbye to your family. Jeanette isn’t my real mother and nor is Isaac my father. I had to get away from my family to keep them safe…
I looked at her for a moment. I was frozen. I didn’t want to leave my mother. What would I do? I didn’t even have choice at this question. I didn’t ask anyone to turn me in some blue eyed protector. Angela felt my feelings and sighed.
Bella, I understand what you feel but I had to go trough it too. We’ll have to leave this place. We are lucky that you changed now since there’s a problem what only we can work out.
“Ok, if that’s what it takes,” I sighed. There was no reason to fight this back. The worst have happened. Now I had to live the life path what I’ve got.
Angela smiled and looked around her room, “When Isaac will be home, there will be planning how to get you away without any problems from here. They already are planning on renovating our house in Forks.”
Are we going to Forks? This time I was the one who talked in her thoughts.
“Yes, there’s where we have to work. There’s some stupid problem and we are the only ones who would work it out,” she smiled. “Now, for a better part! We have to start thinking about your room!”
I closed my eyes and started to imagine my room. I saw a square room with light green walls and there would be big bed with black frame in the center of one wall. Above the bed, on the wall, would be random size mirrors in round shape. Few centimeters above the corners of the bed frame would be lamp - in both sides. In the right corner would be vertical white shelve. It wasn’t big but there was space for book or photo. A black dresser would be positioned on one wall and that would be were I would keep my clothes. And, as in Angela’s room, opposite my bed would be flat screen.
“Wow! I love that! We will make it for you!” Angela clapped her hands.
“Thanks, I tried.”
We talked maybe for hours or so about anything. We talked about music and movies and how our lives would change, mostly my life, when we would go to Forks. There was something what we were both scared of. That was my father who lived in Forks and he would, no doubt, see me.
Finally Mr. Weber came home and Angela and I were heading to speak with her family about this all situation. I didn’t really want to know what we would do and how. Whenever I thought about how my mother would feel without me and how my life would change, I just started to get scared and scared.
“So, Isabella,” Isaac smiled at me. I was about to correct when Angela screamed at me to let him call me like that. “We have some planning to go on now since you have joined us.”
