QaF 30 Day Meme

DAY 1- How did you come to Queer as Folk and the fandom?

I got into QaF rather late: while the fifth season was airing. I was knee deep in loving Harry Potter slash fanfiction, and one day I was watching I love the 80s in my sister's room and Hal Sparks was on. Under his name it said "Queer as Folk." I wondered what it was, so the next time I was on the computer I looked it up. I was... 15 at the time, I believe. So anyway, I looked it up and found Showtime's website, and at the time they would air two clips from every previously aired episode. What was the episode that had just aired? 510. So yeah. Explosion. But I started watching clips from all the season 5 episodes and started to get into it. This was way before my internet savvy days of knowing you can usually download stuff like TV episodes. :P So all I had were episode descriptions and those clips from S5. I watched them all, and since I really couldn't do anything else, I left it alone for a few weeks. Then one day I remembered about the show so I went to see what had happened in the finale, and I ended up on Showtime's message boards, and everyone was railing against Cowlip and Showtime, saying how much the finale sucked ass. :P I looked up the episode description, and even at that time I was like o.0 at what happened. lol.

Anyway, that summer I had a job as a bagger at a grocery store, so I actually had money. I went to Best Buy to see if they had any seasons of the show, and they did, but only S3 and S4. I ended up getting S4 first, and then a few days later I went back and got S3. Then, because the series had ended, they started re-releasing all the other seasons, so I got S1, then S2, and finally S5 when it came out. It was a few months before I really got into fandom, though, when one day when I was reading HP fanfic, I was like, "does QaF have fanfic?" So I searched and my search led me to bjfic.net. And after a while of seeing so many "also on LJ" notes on bjfic, I finally bucked up and got an LJ in 2008. And, as they say, the rest is history. :D

Oh, but when we moved two years ago, I ended up losing all my DVDs that I ever had (TEARS FOREVER), so I've been re-buying things, so now I have the white box set of QaF. Pretty nifty. :P
