Speech competition? Or heart jump out of mouth competition?
Nerves. I've got to say, it's exhilarating, standing up there, making a speech in Japanese, in front of about two hundred or more people... OH GOD. THE TERROR. MY NERVES AREN'T MADE FOR THAT.
But I can still remember the stunned silence when they heard me start in Kansai-ben! XD
I forgot a portion once, and had to really look through my cue cards for them, and the second time I forgot, the bell rang twice (and that means it's already 5 minutes, or 5 minutes 30 seconds -- we're not allowed to go 30 seconds below nor above the limit of 5 minutes), and I just cut through the rest of the speech, straight on to my conclusion. XD Which probably explains why I've come out 4th place! With a spanking cool certificate (which I smudged by accident whiel taking the photo), and a vacuum cleaner from Hitachi. XD
And we were all laughing about how the vacuum cleaner's going to make mother very happy when the lucky person brings it home!
And the sensei tachi treated us to lunch at Donburi. Lovely Katsu curry, which I ate before taking any pictures. Late, hungry, and it was getting cold. I'll see if I can take photos of the certificate, and prize, or if I can get photos from sensei, and I'll up them here. XD Made new friends, and got accosted by two secondary school girls in the toilet, who asked if I could repeat my Kansai-ben for them. XD
All in all, a very good day. Nervous, and omg-my-heart-is-about-to-jump-out-of-my-mouth,-and-my-legs-are-turning-to-water day. A little disappointed that I didn't do better (I really think I could have!), but hey, I could have done a heck of alot more worse. I guess there's still next year's competition to try again? Though I'd sort of promised myself I wouldn't do it again. My nerves aren't made for these sorts of events. XD (I never give up, do I?) And!! Being genki and nervous drains alot of energy out of you, you know that? *dies*
