The Hornblower TV Miniseries/episodes/movies from A&E are so much seafaring fun. I watched two of them and want to watch them all. Since I only have two of them, for now, I settled for dipping into some good 'ole Aubrey/Maturin books a la Patrick O'Brian.
I have also recently discovered the wonderful James McAvoy. Well, it's not so recent. I'd seen him in and really liked him in a bunch of things; I just never managed to piece it all together that it was the same actor. He was great as the star of Rory O'Shea Was Here. He played my favourite character in Narnia. He was cute fun in Starter for 10. And most recently, he was in Becoming Jane. I was talking to Mrs Watson about him and had heard from her that he was actually quite a serious actor (I had, at this point, yet to put together the pieces of the first two movies) and had done some really great work on British TV. I looked up what he had been in and came across State of Play, a wonderful British miniseries that's impossible to find. Luckily I found it. He's really fantastic in it. He's got so much range and energy as an actor. He's far more than a teenage heart-throb. I am to assume he is a heartthrob because I saw a James McAvoy fan group on Facebook which several girls from my high school had joined. But if you look back at his work, especially his early work, this is really great stuff. State of Play is definitely worth the watch and it has the added benefit of Bill Nighy and Kelly McDonald.
I also just got hooked on David Duchovny's new show, Californication.
And Home Movies is good fun, too. Reviews are required on all of the above. I'm working on it.
