Jamin' off the Cuff

Tonight Matt and I headed down to the Hideout Theatre for their Tuesday Night Improv Jam.

It was pretty sweet. I've been taking Improv Classes at the State Theatre, (which are totally awesome. I highly recommend them to anyone who likes improv) and my teacher told me about the Improv Jams.

I didn't really know what to expect. As it turned out it was just a bunch of people who like improv, mostly adults, getting together and improving for 3 hours. It was open for anyone to participate, so I had a great time.

We did scene after scene after game after game. It was really great. I kept on doing internal coaching after each scene, trying to implement what I'd read some of my books. Like,
"Damnit, I can't ask questions. Ok, gotta make sure not to ask questions next scene."

or
"Make sure not to go for the cheap joke."

Altogether I think I did pretty good. There were a lot of people there that were a lot better than me of course, but they were really supportive and giving. It was a really good enviornment. They were a lot more quick witted than I, and a lot of the scenes were really funny. I enjoyed it immensely.

I met a lot of cool people. Most interesting was meeting a girl named Kaci Beeler. Ha, why it was interesting was that it turned out that she was the girl on whose journal I had made this enormouse political rant thing at 4 in the morning a couple months ago.(I was tired). The rant wasn't offensive or anything, I just wasn't expecting to ever actually meet her in person, you know? If I did, I probably would have thought out what I was saying more thoroughly. She was really good onstage, and she seemed to be a very cool person, although I didn't really talk to her all that much. I also met her friend Phil A, who seemed an equally cool guy, also talented at improv.

Heck, most of the people there seemed like really cool people. I'd like to get to know them better.

Anywho, I'm definitly planning on going next week. Anyone interested in joining me?
