In some African countries, it is a cultural expectation for breastfeeding mothers to abstain from sexual relationships. It is also customary, and a highly valued family tradition, that breastfeeding will continue for at least 2 years. To preserve the sanctity of the mother-child relationship there is also tolerance for the perceieved need of males to satisfy their sexual needs outside the family during this time, and this is why teh rate of HIV/AIDS infection in African countries is escalating.
I thought this was quite interesting, never knew that the fact HIV/AIDS spreading was in fact because of cultural consequences...
