"Come; some of our hunters were able to find a deer, if that is to your liking."

Kevin nodded, slowly but surely, following Mike down to the main tents.

Grief and heartache flowed through the air like fog, hanging over the entire group of people. Mike introduced Kevin to the main group that he had first heard speak - Andy, or Butcher ("An old, ridiculous nickname from when I was young," he said, with a broad and happy grin), Sisky, and William, the healer.

"It is an honor," William said as Kevin and he bowed to each other. Kevin could see the marks of a borrowed shirt and resolved to pass along some of his own tunics that had been packed.

"I ask for you to share of your experiences; I will do what I can," Kevin said finally, as they finished eating. The fire was large and he could barely see all the people gathered around. There were other fires and Kevin knew they were all there; knew that his voice would carry these people through the worst of this grief. He did not think of his mother's own grief; only her smile came to mind.

The people talked. Some in small, quiet voices, others with sprawling tones more suited to bawdy tavern songs. Kevin filled every available sense with it, taking it from them as best he could before he nodded to Mike.

Standing was easy; opening his mouth to sing for heart-broken people was another. He thought of his mother, singing to the people after the great Famine and after sickness ravaged their lands. He thought of the grief that took her but the smile she wore on her face. Finally, he began to sing, letting everything go as he pushed love and life into the air around them, lessening the sorrow and taking it onto himself.

They gave him their heartache and he gave them comfort. It was easier to stop and sit, taking the flask of water gratefully. It was exhausting but when he looked around to see lightened eyes, it was worth it.

When he met Mike's eyes and got a stunned smile in return, it was worth it.

(Years later, a song of someone's own would be sung of this night; though Kevin found it far more embellished as to the 'longing looks of new-found love' between himself and Mike. While it was true that the travel back to Jonai had sparked something, Kevin had only found himself in love far after the fact.

The songs, however, were to say differently. Mike, however, was just fine with that.)

So, um, Yeah?

Moral of the story is don't let me read to much LOTR/Hobbit fanfic because I'll write some weird hybrid Mike/Kevin thing. Uh, yeaaaahhh.

So, after singing songs and healing heartache, does Kevin head off? Does Mike follow him? *chinhands* tell me more. :D
