Welcome, one and all, to the Official Invitation to participate in the 2012 So Damn Skippy Christmas Fic Exchange!
This is our FOURTH xmas ficathon (pause for a moment to boggle over that) and since it worked pretty well last year, we're sticking to the same format this year.
You are assigned a prompt (more on that in a minute). You have the choice of either writing a minimum 1000 words (just like last year) OR you can write a minimum of 500 words plus a piece of bonus content (so a mix, arts, a cover, whatever your devious minds can concoct). Either way, you follow the same schedule - check in on December 15, and posting between xmas and new years.
Reply to this post with your prompt. Prompts will be accepted until November 21th, and after that date, everyone who submitted a prompt will receive
an assignment. By December 20th, you will be expected to check in and let us know if you'll be finished in time (either format: fic or fic+bonus), or if you'll need a pinchhit. After that date, you'll be given a posting date, and you can submit your awesome story within that 24 hour period for all of us to enjoy! (Hopefully this will also keep us clear of any Nano-ing or other November writing you are doing)

For the prompts, be as specific as you like, but try to give a few different ideas so that, for example, if your writer absolutely hates space pirates and neglected to mention that in the "I can't write" section, they've at least got a few options.
If you've got any additional concerns or questions, feel free to post them as well (for example "OMG I'm going to be travelling to New Zealand in December, I need to post mine before the 20th!!" or whatever).
This year I want to especially invite, lure and encourage our newbies and lurkers to join in - 500 words and a fanmix, or a 1000words of awesome is a great way to pop your skippy cherry, so to speak. And if the last four years are any indication, there's going to be a bunch of writing chats, offers to beta-read, and general cheerleading along the way.
