how ridiculous are we?

disclaimer: In the following blog, i may be defending the current president of the United States. IN no way do I mean to imply that I support him at all, but this does warrant comment.

So i was watching the news this morning, and there was a little blurb about how it had come to light that President Bush had smoked marijuana once or twice in his youth. okay. Now, i understand that part of why this warrants attention is because he tried to use the same information against Gore ( and i'm sure he would have against Kerry, had kerry been interesting enough to smoke weed), but. c'mon now. Everybody over the age of 18 who is not Mormon who has never tried pot raise your hands. Okay, now, if you were born prior to 1955, keep them up. Thought so. I can guarantee that every single person currently in our government and our media has done something in their youth that they'd rather not share. If the worst thing you did was smoke a bowl( and it's a fair bet that Bush probably did at least one worse) , then i'd say you're ahead of the game. Was he selling it on street corners? no. Does he currently imbibe? probably not ( although it might explain some of his actions) Doesn't the media have anything better to report on than that??? the sad fact is, we're a culture of the screen, which means that we're always tuned in, which means that the media constantly has to search for something new to say. All you Journalism kids out there, PLEASE, PLEASE, find some real news to report.
