ready to make your brain explode?
tim and i were talking yesterday, and he told me about something that i had totally forgotten about: the idea of the panopticon. we see it in the world around us, and to me, it just means that big brother is getting closer and closer to being a reality. for those of you who don't know what it is, panopticonism is basically the idea of "seeing-without-being-seen." very very interesting...
also, i told him i had been contemplating something called 'fermi's paradox' which is basically the idea that, if the universe has so many habitable planets on it, why haven't we been contacted by anyone yet? the idea that intrigued me was the possibility that earth is under a sort of 'galactic quarantine,' meaning there are other people out there, they just aren't responding, or they are just observing us.
