"...forty-three.." Grunt. "Forty-four..." Grunt. "Forty-fi--AHH!"

Julian screamed, eyes wide, when a completely unexpected and obnoxiously loud guitar riff rang through the walls of his room.

"Dammit, bird!"

Arms shaking, he unsteadily placed the weights back down onto the bench. He sat up, scratched behind his ear irritably, and looked around. The noise had left him mildly confused and unsure of what to do.

When his wits suddenly came back to him, he jumped up and strode purposefully out of his room, shutting the door loudly behind him.

---

Julian almost just walked straight into Jay's room uninvited. Almost. But, with one hand on the doorknob, something made him pause, knock aggressively twice, and then walk in as though he'd gotten an answer in the affirmative.

"Hey, Jimi Hendrix!" he started hotly. But that was all he could get out before he froze, all coherent thought flying out of his head as he caught sight of the other boy.

Jay Guthrie was leaning against his bed's headboard, shirtless and instead wearing a half-frightened, half-confused expression, his wings  folded comfortably behind him.

Julian's eyes ran over the expanse of bare flesh. He idly wondered, even as he noted the rising and falling contours of  Jay's muscles as the other boy shifted uncomfortably, if he should start doing some talking instead of just standing there, gawking openly. They'd all seen each other naked, or at least mostly so, in the locker rooms, and that was not to mention all the training sessions in which bits and pieces of uniform had been burned or ripped away.

So this was nothing new, not really.

But there was something about the way the light from the big window was hitting Jay, seemingly basking in and glowing around him as opposed to merely shining on him, that the Hellion surprisingly found beautiful.

He felt his face heat up the second the thought passed.

He scratched the back of his ear unconsciously, suddenly feeling awkward. He was extremely thankful when Jay finally broke the silence.

"Page, actually," the redhead said abruptly, running a hand through his hair.

Julian was dumbfounded. "What?"

"Jimmy Page."

Julian shot the other boy a puzzled look, anger, wonder, and embarrassment all momentarily forgotten.

Jay smiled at him. "I was playing 'Black Dog', you know, Led Zeppelin? So it's Jimmy Page, not Hendrix," he explained patiently.

"Oh." Julian just continued to stare at him, wondering if he was being subliminally insulted by Jay's patient tone. But he didn't say anything else.

Another bout of silence ensued.

"So, dude, um... can I help you?" Jay finally asked after they'd been staring at each other for nearly another minute.

Julian shook himself and snapped out of the state of mild shock he was in. "Yeah, dude, you can," he started, trying to inject just as much venom in his voice as he wasn't feeling right at that moment. "Next time, try to keep in mind you're not the only person on this floor!"

He turned and left, slamming the door with extra vigor for effect.

Jay blinked at the spot where he'd been standing a few seconds ago.

---

Outside, Julian berated himself under his breath, not looking anyone he passed in the eye on his way back to his room.

Right, that's it. I'm sorry, I've got slash on the brain. But at least it's mild?
