Room 418. Saturday Night

Sep 03, 2006 16:52

Seely sat on his bed, rubbing ice over the bruise on his calf from that kinky redhead's psychotic pet, and listening to Parker's message about the band tryouts.

He wondered what was in the water at this school to make for all the crazy.

It's odd to knock on a door after so many days of opening them on the run without invite or the time to ask for one, but Door's not without manners.

"It's open," Seely called out, rather than leaving the comfort of the bed.

It's clearly not, but it's unlocked; Door assumes whoever's within means that as an invitation, and opens it the way ordinary people do.

"Hello?" she says to the boy on the occupied bed.

"Hi," Seely looked up and grinned. "No longer bleeding and unconcious girl."

And it's yet another Upworlder - Door assumes from his clothing, anyhow - who remembers having met her. She's not going to get used to that anytime soon.

"You were there when I...arrived, last night?" she asks.

Seely nodded. "Carried you down to the clinic."

She takes in the height and build of him, and decides first that whoever appointed him for that position made a good choice, and second that possibly she wishes she'd been a little less unconscious.

"Thank you," Door says, stepping into the room. "Most of the blood wasn't mine," she adds by way of truth in advertising.

That got Seely's attention. "Who's was it?"

"Someone who was trying to kill me." How she manages the shrug when she only wants to shudder at the memory is anybody's guess, but she's almost proud of it. "He's not anymore."

Seelys expression darkened as he heard that. "He the same guy that cut you?"

Door nods. "His name was Ross." You wouldn't think she'd remember, but you don't forget things when Mr. Croup whispers them in your ear. "Just a hired blade."

"One less scumbag to worry about." Not that having a cop for a father had left Seely with a negative opinion of that kind of person or anything. "You think the people who hired him will send anyone else."

"No," she says, and it's the truth. "They don't like sharing the fun."
