I would love to play, but alas, I did not read the IDW comics. :(
I am of the opinion that Spike could very easily have fallen for Fred, and that his attentions would have done her a world of good. It's not enough, I know, but it's the best I can do without reading the comics.

{big hug} I'm glad you're here, anyway!

I remember discussing with other Spred fans on the old Sparklies board, in the early days of AtS season 5, about how interesting it would be if Fred fell in love with Spike before he fell in love with her. For the first time, he'd be on the receiving end of a crush. If he became aware of the crush after they were already friends, what would his reaction be? Would he be flattered; surprised; dismayed; tempted?
Here from su_herald, hope you don't mind! It's just, I really agree with this--I want to see Fred come back. To be honest, I stopped reading somewhere around the time it was revealed that Fred wasn't back and it was all just Illyria. I'm not sure I was disgusted so much as just... well, I hated Non. Really, really, really hated her, even if she was pretty. And I was not fond of the molesting either (boo Spider!). So I was pretty much on edge of the fence by the time the Big Reveal happened, and then I was like... they sacrificed one really great storyline/character potential (Fred's return, Illyria's potential redemption, ect) just to keep their superchick. Or so it seemed.
That said, I'm a huge Illyria fan, and I would be terribly said if she died, too. I'd like to see Illyria and Fred co-exist--I mean, it could be possible, right? Fred's already taught Illyria quite much by her memories alone, and I can't help but wonder what a true meeting between them would be like--you know, when Fred wasn't dead or dying. But that'll probably never

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back over here! Real life had me tied up for several days after I posted this entry; I'm glad you came!

There's room for BOTH characters. I'm not very interested in Illyria, but I don't want her removed from the story, as that would hurt the fans who love her. And I think it would be fascinating to see how she and Fred react to each other; there's so many possibilities there for drama and pathos and even some comedy

Aw, no worries about the lateness, I completely understand (especially lately). Boo life!
And I think it would be fascinating to see how she and Fred react to each other; there's so many possibilities there for drama and pathos and even some comedy! That's a great philosophy--you're a better person than many, many other people, to take consideration of the other fans that way. :) And yeah, I agree, there's so much potential on all accounts with Illyria and Fred sharing the same body... I'm surprised the writers didn't seize that, because I would have. But then again, much as I did like Lynch, I lost some love for him after that Spider thing, as you said. He might realize the error in his actions now (or at least, I'm hoping he did), and maybe he'll learn from it. Despite the Playboy!Spike and Spider horror, I really did like some of the other aspects Lynch wrote into Spike's character, so maybe... well, we'll see. If he absolutely did have to set up an OC with Spike and tear apart the Spike/Illyria/Fred-ness he had going on, I'd much

What are you taling about? In my pretty world Spike and Fred already have tons of pretty babies and Buffy is super jealous 'cause she wants Spike back and he's very happy with Fred and his family(yes, I'm a Spuffy, that doesn't make Buffy any less bitchy. Let her suffer! LOL!). Oh, and Fred didn't let Illyria take over, she just kept her strength and now she and Spike spar all the time and she will never die 'cause she's super strong. *nods* Come to my world?
They're part of an alternate reality Season 5 fic in which Buffy finds out that Spike's alive and in love with Fred. (Plus there's some uberhot sex in chapters 4 and 11.)
It's one of my favorite stories, and Kat's one of my favorite authors. She did a wonderful job of putting Buffy into a Spike/Fred fic without bashing her, and she showed the viewpoint of all three characters with accuracy and fairness. Yay, Kat! :D

I'll just take your fic in the meantime.
