Here's the first in a series of looks at the plethora of national competitions that decide which composition will be put forward as a country's entry to The Eurovision Song Contest. Eurovision fandom is consumed every winter with those songs that didn't quite make it. I'll be listing some instances where I think a song left in the qualifiers would have done much better that the real entry.
First up is the 2004 Dutch contribution. My favourite song from their selection was a ballad from the pen of Irish Eurovision legend, Johnny Logan, aka Sean Sherrard. Sung by Arno Kolenbrander, 'The Story of My Life' came pretty much nowhere in the multi-round Dutch 'Nationaal Songfestivaal'. I'll never know if it would have done well in Eurovision but I think it's far superior to their actual entry.

The actual song from The Netherlands in 2004 was 'Without You' by the duo, Reunion. It came 20th out of 24 entries in the 2004 final in Istanbul.
