Left-Liberal Gains in Estonian Elections

The March 4 Estonian parliamentary elections resulted in a significant victory for the ruling Estonian Reform Party (liberal) with 31 seats (up 12) and 27.8% of the vote (up 10.1%). In second place was the Estonian Centre Party (social liberal) with 29 seats (up 1) and 26.1% of the vote (up 0.7%).

Significant losses were suffered by the third place main conservative party, the Union of Pro Patria and Res Publica, at 19 seats (down 16) and 17.9% of the vote (down 14.0%).

On the left, the Social Democratic Party gained 10.6% (up 3.6%) at 10 seats (up 4) and newcomers the Estonian Greens picked up a remarkable 7.1% and 6 seats.
