joan didion and w.s. merwin are speaking this friday at the
grad center for free. i haven't been there since my summer of hell last year, when for 3 days a week/3 hours a day, i practiced german with several other very unhappy people. the general temperament of 34th street combined with difficult german classes was really trying, but i'm willing to redeem that entire long experience with a more pleasant short one. i'm hoping that this marks the beginning of lots more free spring-time (though it feels like summer with this weather) events in the city, which are usually pretty exciting in general. i wonder what bands are playing in prospect park this summer?
also,
this song from sonic youth's upcoming album, "rather ripped," is another reason for happiness (thank you fluxblog). i think it is pretty great stuff and can't stop playing it, <3 thurston.
