Ugh!  Not only did I get a jury duty summons--I didn't receive the actual form, and only knew about it upon getting a reminder in the form of a card with some phone numbers on it.  Wonderful ( Read more... )

Bleghh, my sympathies. I had jury duty last year and it wasn't fun. I only was excused because I was graduating college that afternoon. Just trading one hell for another.

It may not be your style but I've been told writing "I am incredibly masochistic and plan to vote guilty no matter what, everyone should suffer!" to the court can get you out of it. :p may not need a psychiatrist note to have them think you're a bit off...

I know how you feel :/ The driving part is what scares me- jury duty is always in a really crowded, dangerous area and I get a lot of social anxiety when driving. I wasn't going to sign up to vote just so I would never have to do jury duty, but I changed my mind. I haven't been summoned yet but not looking forward to when I do. I hope it works out somehow!

Now it's difficult to think this way when the pressure is already on, but could this be an opportunity for you to develop coping skills outside of your comfort zone? Keeping mindful of the positive self-talk, challenging negative thoughts, sorts of techniques, again tough as that is at the moment, might mean this time the stress is more manageable than the last.
Apologies if that's altogether too sunny/annoying a perspective to throw at you right now.

BTW, appreciate what you say about doctors, they never did pin a name to my anxiety condition, but potentially what they can do is forward you on to professionals who actually know how to work you through CBT which really can make a difference.

You could just not go. What are they gonna do, send the cops after you? Not likely. You probably wouldn't even get a fine or anything. It'll probably just be noted in a file somewhere.
