World Vision is the organizer for the 30 hour famine, and they are always accepting donations all year round. This is just an event people can get involved in for raising money instead of just writing a cheque and being done with it. Plenty of people donate all year round, it all depends on the person. We don't have to have this event to donate money, but with some people it motivates them more. You can complain about it, but I'm sure the starving people would rather get more money doing this event than get less with the normal year-round donations.

Going hungry for 30 hours doesn't fully relate to the poverty, but people get pretty hungry after it and it hits them even more to know that these people don't just go for 30 hours, they go days and weeks. Just because we can't fully relate doesn't make it any worse of an event, nor does it lessen the cause. So what, we still don't entirely know what it feels like, but we've made somewhat of a difference to make the situation better, and that's what counts.

I agree, the popsicles and stuff are pretty lame. I think you should at least be eating nothing at all when you do this. Some people are even stupid enough to cheat and eat when nobody is looking. You're right, it's stupid. BUT there ARE some people with medical conditions that need certain amounts of water or certain kinds of foods and stuff to stay alive and well. You can't expect people to go as far as to put themselves in the hospital to raise some money.
