From the Ashes
The trials and tribulations of life
The pain of everyday adversities
An ominous shadow looming in the not so distant future
I am told This too shall pass.
Little comfort in a world of trouble
The voice on the other end does ease pain
but it is simply not enough
My eyes remain open
Watching incessantly as the black and white circle
Bounces back and forth
Carelessly, with direct aim
Pausing to take notice of the frigid night air
I inhale, kept warm by the comfort of another
And wonder what the future holds
I cannot see past the horizon
I find only storm clouds ahead
Without promise of redemption
Sleep my darling one, you must.
Slowly, my racing thoughts come to a stop
Slowly, night falls in my mind.
My prayer for you, my someone
With each fire a phoenix is born anew
Renewal begins now
Rise from the ashes
to greet a brand new day.
