Can I get a 'what what' from my "Popular Science" reading brethren?
Pg 64, "Will Drugs Make Us Smarter And Happier?"
"What if you could pop a pill to make you remember more, think faster, or become happier or higher-achieving? What if there were safe steroids for the brain?"
Would you? I have a real problem with this and i spent a little time thinking about it. From a moral standpoint I think it would be wrong. What happens to people who can't afford these enhancements? Shouldn't we work with what we have?
But then I started going down the trail of modern medicine. We have been extending the human life expectancy since the begining of time. So would this just be the next step?
I don't want to be the pagen priest who is letting a kid die because "it's natural" and "it's what god wants." But drug enduced enhancements to the body seem.... wrong. The idea just seems absurdly inhumane. But who wants to be left behind? What happens when your co-worker gets promoted because he/shes doing better because of drugs? But they are doing a better job...
Think about it.
