a bit of symbolism-

Anointed, the autumn leaves fall softly to the ground
Fluttering, they glide through the air without a sound
Thickets full of red orange and gold
Encumbering beauty and anger untold
Return they not to the tree from which they came

Touching the ground, the leaves are not the same
Hiding, mixed within the splash of color
Each one becomes lost in the other

Fallen, they rest within the shadow of the tree
Awaiting decomposition or the hope of memory
Landing on the ground in a stark and cold bed
Leaving only the sting of the words you said
