June 7
I went sailing today in the Mediterrean. It was incredible. I got some good pictures. The water was this amazing blue-green. It wasn´t too cold either. I kept dragging my hand through the water. It still seems so surreal that I was out on the Mediterrean. I went with a tour group that consisted of two men from England and one woman from Australia. It was fun to listen to their accents. I wonder what they thought of mine. Personally I think an Australian and English accents sound much prettier then American accents.
Afterwards we shared a bottle of champaign.
Maybe it is the wrong way to see Spain but I have to say I´m enjoying going on these traveling tours. They have been small and I´m getting to see the country the way I want to.
Maybe it´s the easy way out but ever since I got attacked last year I don´t feel terribly comfortable traveling all alone. As it is I´m still more keenly aware of my surroundings and keep a watch on everyone around me particularly those behind me and next to me. I also scope out safety places with men so I will not get ambushed. I´m not sure if these are just good precautions that I´m taking or if it´s more parania. Often I wonder if I will ever be the same as I used to be before I was attacked. Somehow I doubt it. I was probably a little bit naive.
The other fun thing about doing these traveling tours is I´m meeting people from all over the world. Yesterday at Monterrsat I met very nice people from the Vancouver area- Baniff where my family used to vacation. We hit it off and today I met a very nice woman from Australia who I think I hit it off with as well.
I also feel like with a tour group they know of things you might miss on your own.
I really enjoyed being out on the water feeling the salt water and the wind in my face and hair. It reminded me when I was very young and my parents and my godparents and other friends of the family participated in a boat competition. My big sister Sarah was in charge of me. My dad and her sister Roberta ( my other big sister) were in the same boat. Sarah and I were climbing up to the lookout point when I fell and skinned my knee. Of course I didn´t tell Sarah but continued to climb the mountain with blood running down my leg. When Sarah noticed she made us stop and cleaned out my knee and my leg and put a bandaid on it and then insisted on carrying me on her back the rest of the way up to prevent any more accidents. When we got to the top we saw the boat my dad and her sister had been in had capsized. It is an interesting memory. It´s funny being out sailing today that´s what I remember.
It was a good day although I keep thinking of this quote from John Kennedy.
¨All of us have in our veins the exact same percentage of salt in our blood that exists in the ocean, and, therefore, we have salt in our blood, in our sweat, in our tears. We are tied to the ocean. And when we go back to the sea -- whether it is to sail or to watch it -- we are going back from whence we came.”
