Continuining with the topic brought up in the last post (thus, the related Social Distortion lyric title), I have bad luck. Why I couldn't have just left it at that (without the examples) is beyond me.
Reasoning for my luck will be pondered in another post, "Karma Police" (which hasn't been written yet and may very well never be), but the bottom line is there can be no dispute that I have bad luck.
I'm bad for business. Any and all businesses apparently.
Some of my past employers have been Circuit City, May Co, Chaos VP, Soupplantation, Builder's Emporium. What they have in common is that they are all are out of business. Obviously, I had nothing to do with that (or did I?) as most ceased operations after I was gone. So, perhaps, it can be argued that my presence KEPT them in business (or at the very least did not hinder it), but that would destroy my thesis.
Let's look at my recent business history. After turning "professional" (lol), I went to work for my friend's dad in "high finance". After 11 months of employment, I determined that my job was stable, so I signed a 1 year lease with a pricey apartment near the business. One month later, I was terminated. Shortly, thereafter, the company ceased donig business.
I then turned my attention to artist management. NONE of my clients made any money. My best offer at doing business was with a well known musician who allegedly was under the influence of a substance. Then, I decided to form my own business where I would whore out my legal services to other lawyers to appear for them in court. Over the next few years, I built up my business, making it so that I had a comfortable living while only working an hour or two a day. Don't hate me yet as this has a bad ending.
THE DREADED IRS (and if they are reading this, I apologize) stepped in and decided to AUDIT me. Of course, since I couldn't PROVE TO THEM that I did NOT earn well over a 6 figure income (like all attorneys do), *rolls eyes* they decided that I was lying and fined me substantially. As the interest from two years was acrruing at 20% (and 30% for parts) monthly, I was forced to settle, thereby wiping out most of my profits from my business.
In 2004, my business became focused on Bankruptcy, but with the major changes in the Bankruptcy laws in 2005, I decided that I would not learn all the intricacies of the new laws and shift my business elsewhere. Shifting my focus to consumer debt, a new law expediting debt collect litigation by eliminating the need for hearings drastically cut my business. With the current economy, my business has gradually become focused on bankruptcies once again.
A month ago, I learned that my biggest client (who had been running commercials on TV and radio 24/7) had suddenly lost his law license and had closed his business literally overnight, meaning roughly 4500 clients were stuck with cases in various stages of bankruptcy and with foreclosed homes and while I do feel bad for them, the State Bar will refund most of their money, but I am unable to recover any income that he owes me for services rendered. Yes, I will be forced to sue him, but he will declare Bankruptcy and I will get nothing for many months of labor on his behalf.
Not to mention, I still get angry phone calls from his clients, debtors that I represented in court. Dealing with the consequences of that will be another post some day.
But, the point of THIS post is that I am clearly unlucky in business and that has inspired me to let it be known that I am officially on the market should any company want to hire me to work for a competitor in order to kill their business. I.e. if Apple wants to destroy Android, they could PAY me to get a job with (or promote) Android.
I am not suggesting anything illegal or untoward, but more like the role of a "cooler". Coolers are those hired by casinos to bring their bad luck to hot/lucky gamblers.
