To my UCLA / Westwood Friends, DON'T DRINK THE WATER. You probably heard this, but just in case...

Feb 02, 2005 23:35

To the UCLA Community:

A leak in a major water main this afternoon -- at the Lower Stone
Canyon Reservoir, near campus -- may affect the safety of drinking
water until early Friday night.

The California Department of Health Services, along with the Los
Angeles Department of Water and Power, are advising us to BOIL WATER
BEFORE DRINKING as a precaution. This caution will apply until early
Friday night. Unless drinking bottled water, let water boil for one
minute, and let it cool before drinking it. Boiled or bottled water
should be used for both drinking and for preparing food. Boiling
kills bacteria and other organisms in water. Neglecting to follow
this precaution could possibly result in stomach or intestinal
illness.

Signs will be posted in campus buildings, and drinking fountains will
be covered.

Water service to portions of UCLA was briefly interrupted Wednesday
afternoon, but has been fully restored. Water is safe for washing
hands.

In addition to UCLA and Westwood, the areas affected by this notice
include Sepulveda Boulevard to the west, Beverly Hills to the east,
north of Sunset Boulevard (Somma Way) to the North and Santa Monica
Boulevard to the south.
