The past tense of twittered is twattered. I'm bored to death of everyone and their momma talking about twitter. OOH! Barbara Walters has a twitter account. Ninny Elisabeth can't stop blathering about it, making every verb/noun/adjective into a tw-erb/tw-oun/tw-adjective. You know what? Twuck You Elisabeth

Why waste time with poetry when you can write a novel?
Not a perfect comparison, but the problem isn't the medium so much as the fact that it can be poorly used.
