General boring update on things

Apr 24, 2013 10:43

I haven't updated in a while because I feel like not much has been going on. I still haven't missed a day with my 365 photos. I managed to make a few sales on Etsy and on my sales journal, so I had a lot of stuff to mail out on Monday. (Including the old Caboodles case I found at Goodwill...I can't believe that someone actually bought it from me, let alone that it looks like the person who got it made an Etsy account SPECIFICALLY to buy that! XD) Zack was kind enough to help me lug it all the way to the post office, thankfully....though I felt like a dork and, while packing up people's purchases, realized I was running out of packing tape. So I had to improvise secure all the packages with neon pink duct tape. ^^; The lady at the post office seemed amused when I plopped down a pile of pink neon on her counter, so I hope the people getting the packages will have a sense of humor about it, too. Hopefully I can pick up some REAL packing tape later this week.

While working on packing up mail, housework, etc, I've been watching a lot more Netflix and anime. (Crunchyroll sent me another free 30 day premium account trial, which means streaming on our big tv again~) It makes me feel kinda lazy, but at least I'm doing stuff WHILE I watch, so...that's not all bad, right?

Hemlock Grove - I know nothing of the book (books?) this is based on, I was basically like "Oh, Netflix did a horror show? Let's give it a shot." I watched the first few episodes and I'm kinda meh on if I wanna continue. The story seems all over the place, there aren't a lot of memorable characters, and it seems more of a "Drama" with random supernatural elements thrown in than "horror". It seems like they wanted to be edgy like American Horror Story, but just ended up falling short. (Just because you can show boobs and say fuck doesn't make you edgy, sorry.)

Breaking Bad - I FINALLY started from the beginning, haha. XD Took me long enough, I know. I'm like 5 or 6 eps into season 1. It's a very intense show, I can't watch more than one or two at a time. But it's very intriguing so far, and it's been so long since I watched the random eps that I did that I can't remember much of what I saw (which is probably for the best, I like starting long shows at the beginning.) It might take me a while to watch all of this, but I definitely will.

Red Dwarf - Rewatching this for the first time in probably like 13 years. It's amazing how much of it I'd forgotten! Cat is still the best.

Chihayafuru - I have several friends who were really into the first season of this, so I gave it a shot...and then promptly got sucked into it. XD I never expected a series about a poetry card game to be so addicting, but it was! I think that might be part of the reason I found it so addicting: the karuta card game was something I knew nothing about. It's so unique and interesting to me! I don't think I'd even heard of it before this series. (In fact, I think when I had first heard of the series, I assumed the card game was Hanafuda. ^^;) There's the typical romantic subplot, but it's subtle enough that it doesn't overtake the series, I think. I watched the entire 1st season in no time, and I just started season 2 yesterday.

Arata the Legend - Based on the manga by Yuu Watase, so duh of course I'd wanna check it out. ;p I read the first vol of the manga and thought it was ok...the anime's only 3 episodes in and its going by super fast....like, they barely went into any of Real World!Arata's life and why he had no friends, ect. I was kind of surprised. But I guess it's due to time constraints, etc. It seems like a strange mix of Fushigi Yuugi and El-Hazard so far, but without nearly as much of the humor that was in either. I'm kind of hoping that changes as time goes on (since there are parts of the OP that look so lighthearted). It's ok so far, hopefully once they've fleshed out more of the story it'll get better.

Attack on Titan - Damn, this show is crazy. o__o Not in a bad way, though, just...damn! The animation is pretty great, and the concept's different. It's cool to see something sort of sci-fi/fantasy-ish that isn't totally cliched. I've never read any of the manga, but I hear it's pretty good. The attempt at humor in the 3rd ep while everyone looks so freaking SERIOUS AND INTENSE made in unintentionally funnier for me. I'm looking forward to seeing more of this one!

Monster - I actually started watching this when it was a NEW SERIES back in the day...but I got side-tracked with real life and never finished it. I bought the first dvd set back when Viz released it, but then they decided it wasn't worth releasing anymore of, apparently, and dropped it (even though they dubbed and subbed the entire thing already!) Well, Hulu has it up (subtitled!) so I've been streaming it on TV with Huluplus (that a friend was kind enough to let me "borrow" their login to use...*cough*) and watching it again. I'm almost to the point I was at before I stopped watching, so I'm looking forward to actually seeing the ending this time.

Polar Bear Cafe - I'd actually been watching this before, but I fell behind. Now I'm getting closer and closer to the end, and it's making me sad because then it'll be over! XD It's such a funny series, I love it. You never would've thought you'd enjoy watching all sorts of zoo animals acting like humans and going about their daily lives, but it's really cute & clever, honestly.

The Flowers of Evil - This one is...hmm. Well, I've read some of the manga, and it's really bizarre and unsettling, almost to the point of making you uncomfortable. But I think that's the point? It's one of those series that's hard to really describe to someone. The anime's been getting a lot of attention because most fans of the manga were really angry that they're animating it with rotoscoping instead of making it look like the original artist's style. I can see why, since that makes it look so different, but it's kind of interesting to see an anime series that's "different" looking (esp. now, when so many styles look very similar). I'm also curious to see where the anime will end in comparison to where the manga seems to be going. A strange series, but I think that's what makes it interesting to watch.

There's probably a few more, but that's just the most recent stuff, I guess. XD

Zack's been busy lately, too. Between school, working at the Children's Theater, and working on the Memories fandub AND KOR Theater, I'm amazed he has the time or energy to do much of anything else. ;3; *hugs him* I've been trying to help him when I can, though. (As much as one can help with those kinds of things, I guess.) I keep freaking out a little whenever I think about how A-kon is just around the corner, too, and how we won't have nearly as much money this time around. (Not to mention that my department head hasn't really emailed me much...I guess I'm just spoiled from being in heavenlymaron's department, she's so good at keeping everyone informed of everything.) I decided to sign up for Exhibition Hall this year instead of pre-reg because 1. even though I've lost more weight this year, my health seems to be not as great as it was around this same time last year 2. because of this, I was worried I wouldn't be fast enough with all the running around/getting badges/etc 3. I didn't want any of these said issues to cause problems for the rest of the group, because I love the pre-reg people and I don't want them to think bad of me. ;__; So I figured I'd do this year in the exhibition hall again (what I did my first year of A-kon) because most of it was just sitting behind a table, keeping people informed, keeping an eye on people's booths for them when they need breaks, and making sure that the con-goers behave. (At least, that's what it was last time.) I know they'll need help setting up stuff, but that shouldn't be too hard...hopefully.

Heh, I guess I'm just rambling now. Sorry. XD

What have you guys been up to?
