So, yesterday ended up being quite nice. The lady who won a book from me on Listia got in contact with me & we ended up meeting in person so I could give her the book instead of paying to mail it 10 minutes away from me. XD She was a nice older woman and we both laughed at what a small world it really can be some times (she was also amused when I said a guy from a neighboring town won a video tape from me last week, too--what are the odds?). Zack was kind enough to come with me because even though I made sure to meet her in a public place (we met up at a fastfood place in front of a Walmart ;P), I always get a little nervous meeting strangers from the internets (one of the reasons I don't use Craigslist all that often, heh.)
After that went down smoothly, I grabbed a garden salad for lunch, then we scoped out the thrift store nearby since we had over an hour and a half to kill before Arrietty started. I ended up finding a bunch of books, including "A Brief History of Time" (laugh if you will, but that's always been a book I've wanted to read but just never got around to), and a
GIANT Law & Order Photo book! (It's heavy as a brick, but it's really neat...mostly photos on how they set up crime scenes and stuff.)
When that was all paid for we walked up the hill to the movie theater to see Arrietty. I haven't been able to see a Ghibli film in theaters since Spirited Away with Sue way back in 2002! (Good lord...that feels like a lifetime ago!) It was really lovely, I enjoyed it immensely, even though I'd already seen the Japanese version. There were the usual Disney "edits" to the movie--the big one being how they INSIST on adding dialog to scenes where no one is talking, or they add lines that were never in the original just because they can or they feel like it. Which never made sense to me, but...since they keep doing it in EVERY Ghilbi film, it's stopped surprising me. Other than that and the fact that they tacked on some lame song at the end by one of their current Disney Channel stars, everything else was good! I love being able to see Ghibli movies on the big screen...you can see all the little details even more clearly, and Cécile Corbel's soundtrack was really lovely. (I was glad they kept at least 2 of her lyrical songs for the movie! I assumed they were going to cut them all out.) Zack really enjoyed it, too, which made me happy. OH! And there were actually LOTS of kids at the theater! Zack & I were one of the only groups of people there that didn't have kids, heh. All the children seemed to really enjoy it, too, which gave me the warm fuzzies. X3 (Makes me think of the first time I saw Totoro back in the 90s when Fox released it...ah, memories~)
So, yeah, all in all, a pretty fun & productive day, I must say. I'm also almost done with the Link embroidery, so hopefully I'll have that done by today if all goes well. (I also need to make a run to the post office today...not really looking forward to that, but oh, well...needs to be done!)
