Well, yesterday was the first official day of work. (Monday didn't really count, I just came in and watched training videos and did a bunch of paperwork.) I didn't know how long I was going to be working, so imagine my surprise when I ended up having to stay a full shift (til almost 6:30pm!) XD But it ended up being ok. I thought having to manually ring in stuff at a register would be confusing and hard, but it actually ended up being fairly simple--the hard part is A. remembering what's on sale (different things are on sale every week), and B. figuring out which departments some items came from. Basically, you're supposed to ring up the item's price and the department it came from...which is generally not hard, but there are times were you get the same types of items in different departments. Example: there are spools of ribbon for sale in the Floral department, the Sewing department, AND the Scrapbook department. So things like that, I'm still trying to get the hang of.

But on the plus side, the girl who was training me said she was THRILLED that I seemed to be getting the hang of it right off the bat. Apparently, most new people need a lot of hand-holding at first when learning the register (since most places nowadays have scanners, so a lot of people aren't used to it.) One of the managers even called me a Natural! ;3; I was so happy about this, because this I think was my main worry...I've never worked in a retail setting where I didn't have a scanner on my register, so I was a little intimidated by it. Ironically enough, working fast food has helped, because each department has a button and you have to remember where it is--much like how fast food has a button for basically everything, you just have to find it. XD

AND the people there seem genuinely nice. There's around 30-some people on staff instead of Target's 200+, so that's kinda nice. While I was on break, I sat and had lunch with a few of my new coworkers, and we ended up talking about American Horror Story and the South Park movie. XD Not what I expected at all, lol.The hiring manager had told me they don't like to gossip and such, and want to keep the staff more like a big group of friends and family...but lots of jobs say stuff like that. I think this is one of the first times I've actually seen it done.

You can totally tell it's been a few months since I've worked, though--I came home from work TOTALLY EXHAUSTED. I guess it also doesn't help that the office, breakroom, and lockers are up 2 flights of stairs, either. ;__; But like I was telling Zack last night, maybe this'll help me lose some of the extra weight I've gotten from being unemployed. XD;; Hopefully I'll at least get used to it soon.

Ok, speaking of work...I gotta get ready to go again. More later!

PS--anyone else doing NaNo? I feel a little crazy, but I am trying...so far, I'm up to 2,665 words.
