Out & about

Over the weekend, a coworker told me about an Asian market that was in town. I had no idea there was anything like that here, so Zack & I went to investigate. Well, we found it, and while it's no Uwajimaya in Seattle (but really, what is?!), it did seem to have a much better selection of stuff for Asian cooking than the tiny Asian aisles in our local grocery stores. Sadly, they were out of stock of a LOT of what they normally carry, apparently, because they hadn't gotten their new shipment in yet...but I still managed to find a few things until then.

One thing that totally surprised me: their little bakery had macarons! Needless to say, I bought the last 3 they had:

I didn't even ask what flavors they were, because frankly, I was too excited. (I haven't had macarons since the week I moved from WA, so...over a year!) The brown one was chocolate, the orange one ended up being mango (yum!), and the pink one?

The pink one ended up being Sakura flavored! :D That was a nice surprise. I assumed it was going to be strawberry. Ahhhh...Sakura-flavored stuff, how I missed you!

I also bought a few other things:

I was just thinking about trying a chilled soba recipe (the weather's already getting hot, we had a high of 90 today. =__=), so I figured I'd pick up some while I was still thinking about it. I LOVE sweet potatoes, so I had to snag those puffs (I ate them earlier tonight, and they were very tasty), and the small packet at the bottom is freshly ground chili powder. They had lychee and ube ice cream, but with the heat, I didn't want to buy it and have it melt (since we went to several other places after this before going home.) Hopefully we'll get more stuff next time, though!

After that, Zack traded in some stuff at Hastings while I checked out the used books and found some awesome stuff: a new cookbook, a retro design book, and the first new Dark Horse omnibus collection of Card Captor Sakura (ahhh, memories! ♥ ) as well as a new reusable shopping bag, all for less than $10! Not too shabby.

Then we finished grocery shopping at Albertson's, and we came home and cooked dinner. Not terribly exciting, but we did get a lot done in one afternoon!

Sadly, for the last couple of hours I've had a headache that just will not go away, but I'm hoping that a good night's sleep will help with that, since I'm all out of migraine pills. :P

photos, books are awesome, fatty likes food, blowing money, exciting isn't it?
