So. I have a little time this morning to make a substantial update.
I had to wake up at about 3:30am, which was kind of annoying, but I was so geared up that it wasn't too bad staying awake. I mentioned this in my last voice post, but halfway through security, one of the little plastic hoops that held the shoulder strap on my laptop bag broke. I clipped it to the handle on the top of the bag, but it was still annoying because it just made it all the more awkward to carry.
The plane ride itself was alright...I forgot that Spring break started for a lot of people this week, so my flight was totally packed. I was squished in between a little old lady and a very tired looking business man. Thankfully, both of them seemed nice, though neither of them talked to me much.
I flew Continental for the first time, and I have to say, I definitely like them WAY more than Southwest. The people where nicer, they actually served us a BREAKFAST (holy crap!), and we got to watch a movie for free because our flight was a little late leaving (which was Planet 51, lol, but still. A free movie made the flight go a little faster.)
When I got to the Houston airport, I assumed that, since I had an hour until my connecting flight, I didn't have to rush. OH, WHAT A FOOLISH GIRL I WAS. When I asked one of the guides where my gate was, I was told to go all the way down the hall, turn left, go up the stairs, TAKE THE TRAIN (uh, ok) to the last stop, go down the main hall, down the stairs, AND THEN TAKE THE BUS (WTF?!) to the gate. I literally went O____O, then ;____; *RUNS* Yeah. Fat girl running through the airport with a giant purse and an awkward laptop bag. I'm sure that I was a sight to see.
I did make it ok, and when they told me the bus would take me to my plane, I assumed they ment to where the gate was--OH, SILLY ME, AGAIN! The bus took me right onto the airstrip where one of those tiny planes (like those small ones you see in movies, private business jets? lol) had a stair ramp pulled up next to it, and I was told that THIS was my flight. Again, cue me going O___O, heh. But this time, more in a good surprised way. I'd never ridden on such a tiny plane, and going up into it kinda made me feel like a movie star. XD (STUPID, I know, but hey, why not have fun with it?) This flight was MUCH less packed, I think there were only 8 other people on the flight with me, and we were all stretched out, so I had plenty of space and figured that now, I'd have plenty of time to relax.
HA. FAT CHANCE, LADY!
Since the plane was small, it was light flying in a bus...and when we took off, the turbulence was TERRIBLE. So much so that I was starting to get a little nauseous. It must've really shown, too, because after the 20-ish minutes of takeoff turbulence, the flight attendant came back to where I was sitting and asked if I was ok and if I needed a puke bag. XD; I said I didn't think so, and asked if she had some ginger ale. She brought me some, and a puke bag "just in case" (oh, man, did I really look that bad?!). Thankfully, I didn't need it, and once we were high enough, it stopped and I was fine. After the ginger ale, I popped a mint in my mouth to help settle my stomach, and that seemed to help.
We landed in Shreveport, and I was surprised at how small the airport was, but I guess they mostly get those small planes, so I guess that makes sense.
nitrozsz was at the gate waiting for me, and my luggage arrived without any problems! I was exhausted, but thrilled that my luck seemed to be with me so far. :3
Zack and his mom got me a "housewarming" gift, which was sitting on the kitchen table when I arrived: a brand-new waffle maker! Awww! ♥ I had told them that I was really looking forward to having a nice, big kitchen to fiddle around in, which was why they got that. The duplex is very nice, it's a little old, brick building with ivy growing on the side of it, and a nice little patch of grass in the front with a tree. It's very cozy. ♥
On Monday, we went to see Alice in Wonderland at the local theater (where we had gone to see Slumdog Millionaire together!). We were surprised to discover that they where showing it in 3D! (My old local theater was old and lame and never showed movies in 3D.) It was a lot of fun, but I can see exactly what a lot of my friends where saying when they said they thought it was too much like "The Looking Glass Wars", or that they where just generally expecting more. I was a little, myself, but I still enjoyed it. I loved Cheshire Cat, and the girl they got to play Alice was great. The visuals were really cool, though, especially in 3D. I just zoned out and tried not to compare it to other incarnations of Alice and just enjoyed it. (Plus, we were the only people in the theater, which was pretty rad.) I would LOVE to see How to Train Your Dragon there eventually, since they're showing that in 3D, too.
Yesterday, I went with Zack to his Bowling class (for his PE credit in school, heh). The bowling alley really reminded me of the one in my hometown--a little dated, but in the fun sort of ways. I didn't bowl, of course, but I had fun watching Zack. Plus, they had an AWESOME jukebox! I'd never seen one like this--it was all digital, and when you chose songs to play, it played over the speakers of the entire building! Not only that, but it had old AND new stuff. And by new, I mean NEW, like they had "Stylo" in there, haha. XD So I had fun playing around with that.
And last night, I made a nice dinner for Zack's mom's birthday. (And also to have an excuse to try my hand in the kitchen, heehee.) I made a pasta carbanara and a spinach & strawberry salad with raspberry vinaigrette & cashews. I took a picture with my phone:
I had to modify the recipe for the pasta slightly (it originally calls for pancetta, but Zack's mom can't have it, so I used sauteed mushrooms instead), and I thought a slightly sweet salad might be a nice pairing with such a savory-flavored pasta. I was really nervous, since I hadn't made this particular dish in...geez, over 5 years, probably. I was thrilled that Zack and his mom loved it, though! Zack said something like "this tastes like how food at the Olive Garden SHOULD taste", haha. XD; I was pretty happy with how it turned out, too. It's not TOO difficult...just sort of time-consuming. (Funny note: I sent my parents that same picture on my phone, and I guess I wasn't clear enough that I had made it myself, because later my dad was surprised: he thought that I had ordered that at a RESTAURANT because it looked so "pretty", haha!)
The weather's been lovely here so far. Yesterday it was 80 degrees, today it's supposed to be 84. I'm not used to so much sunshine! ♥ But it's really nice. I know it's gonna get REAL hot here soon, so I'm trying to enjoy this "mild" weather while I can, heh.
Oh! I've also gotten mail here already! XD I ordered some
free Moo-card business cards with my new phone number and email address (and some of my own photos as the layout!), which came. They turned out really nice! I also got a nice package from
neomo--a beautiful copy of the classic Dracula novel and a really cute Matryoshka card. :3 Thank you so much! ♥
*yawns* So now, I'm waiting for my truck o' stuff to reach Texas. They'll call me when it's here so I can set up a day and time for them to come so we can unload my things. I also need to get a new Texas ID because my old WA ID expires on my bday, which is Friday! (Zack keeps giggling about all these surprises he has planned for my bday...I'm almost frightened, lol.)
So, yeah. So far, everything's been awesome. :D I'm still getting used to the 2-hour difference (since my sleep schedule wasn't that amazing to begin with.) But other than that, it's been a pretty smooth transition so far. ♥
Ok, this entry took almost an hour for me to type, so I think I'll sign off for now.
