Background

Personality: At the beginning, Tetsuya is a very by-the-book individual. He tends to follow tried-and-true procedures, questions the use of more unorthodox methods, and expresses plenty of surprise whenever the enemy, an allied PT pilot, or Daitetsu does something he never saw coming. He becomes even more surprised when these methods work. Despite this, Tetsuya knows how to follow orders. He may question them, but he will follow them without fail.

Tetsuya is a very loyal individual. As stated before, he would unfailingly cooperate with any order that Daitetsu would give. Also, after Daitetsu died, Tetsuya refused to take on the rank of captain and instead took the rank of deputy captain to give Daitetsu some form of spiritual presence. Tetsuya even refused to sit in the captain's chair to this end.

Tetsuya is also a respected officer among his subordinates. Whenever Tetsuya gives an order not from Daitetsu, the crew will still follow his orders. While the crew may express dissatisfaction with their jobs, none of them express dissatisfaction with working beneath Tetsuya (though Eita will joke that they just like the way he exclaims "What?!" when he hears the status report).

Despite his start, his abilities to lead and command grow greatly throughout the events of the games, thanks mostly to Daitetsu. Tetsuya learns to think outside the box himself and to keep his cool in tough situations. A prime example of this is when Lee ordered the Shirogane to ram the Kurogane. Everyone from his bridge crew to the captain of the Hiryu Custom was yelling at Tetsuya to order the helmsman to take evasive action. However, Tetsuya would not back down, and instead ordered the helmsman to charge the Shirogane at flank speed, using the Titanic Drill on the Kurogane's bow to punch through the Shirogane.

In downtime, Tetsuya is still fairly serious, but he's also fairly kind-hearted and willing to give people second chances. When the EFA captured a DC pilot by the name of Ryoto Hikawa, a young man who had been drafted into the DC because he played the video game Burning PT, Tetsuya was more than willing to give Ryoto a second chance by fighting alongside the EFA. As a matter of fact, Tetsuya had fully believed that Ryoto would seek out that second chance.

One major quirk Tetsuya has involves alcohol. Tetsuya has practically no tolerance for alcohol whatsoever, much to his chagrin and the amusement of his captain. Just a glass of Daitetsu's prized sake was enough to put him out of commission just as a swarm of Aerogater bugs attacked Aidoneus Island. Much of the cast teases Tetsuya about this trait.

Raidiese F. Branstein

"Like a dream, huh? I can understand that... and I'm glad that it wasn't."

Tetsuya sees in Rai an able soldier and pilot. He doesn't know Rai that well, but he's seen Rai's intelligence and read of his exploits in combat, and is glad to have him in the GDF. He does think, though, that Rai needs to loosen up a bit.
Ryusei Date

"I can't wait! We're really gonna hit it! Zoldark can't stop us now!"

Tetsuya kind of sees Ryusei as an ascended fanboy with talent. However, he can tell that, in addition to being enthusiastic, that Ryu is a genuinely good person and hopes he has the best of luck in the military.
