Well, WTF!
Er... the universe is random.
Why do I say this? Tell you in a minute.
First: saw the new Mummy movie. A hot mess, mostly. Still love Rick O'Connell, though I'm a bit sick of the floppy boy-hair - but whatserface is NOT an adequate swap-out for Rachel Weisz.
Wandered by my old house, which is different in good ways, as is the whole neighbourhood. Streets have been repaved and properly curbed, and our old property in particular has been tidied and just made a lot nicer. Seems to be a lot of fixing-up going on in the whole area, really.
Then came the random part. We decided to walk down toward the highway, as our motel is along it, and Jay spotted a taxi. The driver was doing a delivery, so we waited for him to come back, and asked if he'd take a flag. Yes, that's fine, so he takes change back to the delivery customer, but as he came back to take us, I recognised him.
Remember that ex-boyfriend I mentioned? Yep, it was him. So... walking along a random street in my hometown, I run into the one guy I actually had a plan to see, because we wanted a cab back to the motel.
He's looking about a hundred times happier than he did when we were kids, and I learned he's 13 years clean and sober. Is this not AWESOME? He was kind of a lost soul all those years ago, but he's doing great now, married to a woman who was happy to tell me she loves him to bits when I spoke to her about a get-together earlier today, and not drinking any more.
Heh. As we came up to the room, Jay made a point of saying he wouldn't give me a hard time if I jumped on Machine Baby right away. Yeah, he knew I was posting this ASAP.
