Safeway is a hazardous place. I've gotta start shopping at Superstore.

Erm... awkward.

Just got back from grocery shopping. This is not the problem.

The Mum has begun going to the Lutheran church across from our apartment complex. I dunno... if she needs the comfort of belief, I'm not going to be difficult about it. It's not like she's dragging me along to services.

Anyway, this is the church with the three older women who feel the need to criticise me on sight. Like one of them did today, in the grocery store. She even asked me why I was harassing 'that nice lady' (The Mum) when she was trying to shop.

Nosy Church Cow wasn't pleased when I pointed out the fact that 'that nice lady' is my mother, and I was helping... and then she told me I should come to church with The Mum to prove that I love her. As in, Nosy Church Cow won't believe that I love my mother if I don't go to church with her.

I couldn't think of anything snarky then, but it's all bubbling up NOW. Blast you, Sarcasm Gland, why do you never excrete when I want you to?

I wonder if her kids go to church with her? If they do, is it out of obligation, and do they resent it, secretly or not-so-secretly?

And really, the reason this bothers me is that The Mum can be really suggestible, so having idiots like this woman in her church is going to give me very tight neck muscles, I can tell. I wouldn't give a shit at all, if The Mum were in any other church, or if I'd been the only one to hear the woman's words, but now I'm worried The Mum will decide to test me, and I'm not playing any stupid bloody games.

I am what I am, and I won't turn around and pay lip service to religion just because small-minded people can't understand simple concepts like atheist=/=devil-worshipper and being a churchgoer says nothing about your character; it only means you GO TO A CHURCH.

I have told The Mum that I will not be engaging in proofs of devotion, and she'll just have to take the last twelve years we've shared a place as full evidence.

fuck you very much, wtf?, i believe in virgin birth and unicorns!, the kinfolk are restless tonight
