Heeee. I've had a long but very entertaining day.
Let's see... first, watched Avatar with The Cha, Jay, and the boys. Very amusing. Heh. Sokka's still the funniest.
Then, dinner at the restaurant in the post title. OMFG, folks. I sampled a bit of everything. Also, there was a demonstration of capoeira by two men and two boys, and it was AWESOME.
OK, let me set this up for you. Servers come around with skewers of flame-roasted meats. You indicate whether or not you'd like some of what they've got, and they cut a bit, you grab with tongs thoughtfully provided for each seat, and they finish cutting so you can take the piece. Meat. As much as you want. (This is big news for carnivores like me.) There's a salad/sides bar as well, with lots of unusual goodies. And for me, well... Mm, broccoli.
They serve some exotic meats there. Your standards: beef in a few forms, pork, chicken, and lamb. But then there's the weekend goods: buffalo, ostrich, and kangaroo. Yes, I tried the ostrich and the kangaroo. They were tasty! Both strong-flavored, but not unpleasant. The 'roo was gamier, and not something I'd seek out, but still quite good.
After that, a show at the Commodore Ballroom. Spirit of the West with Ashley MacIsaac!! Mac was sober for this one, so Alli and I felt justified in not throwing ice at him, though we had to ping a few people who chose to halt at the top of the stairs directly in front of our table, blocking our view. I've learned that I have exceptionally bad aim with ice chips. (Sorry to that woman on the second tier of tables who got the shot to the shoulder. It wasn't meant for you. My bad.) Mac was in hot mode tonight. Good set. Particularly fun was his offer to take an audience member 'home for a rest', and having him point out that he's pretty much always been stoned every other time he was at the Commodore.
Spirit of the West was AMAZING. This turned out to be their 25th Anniversary performance, and they played a grand set. Of COURSE they played Home for a Rest, and our entire table shrieked along with it. Jay looked absolutely maniacal, screaming "TAKE ME HOME!" at the appropriate times. I'm sure I looked just as loony and potentially violent, heh.
After this, we went hooker-scoping, which basically involves cruising through the expected parts of Vancouver and making guesses on which women were working girls and which ones were simply tourists who didn't know any better than to dress like that in those neighborhoods.
Cruising through New West, we hit the Adult Fantasy Factory 24-hour store and I bought lube (strawberry-kiwi flavoured!) and pondered the not-wonder that is nipple clamps. Told Jay he could buy them if he used them on himself.
Back in Surrey, at roughly 2AM, we decided that we were hungry again, and went to Denny's. They do not have the wonderful omelets like I get at IHOP. Very sad. Still, scrambled eggs and breakfast meats are yummy.
It is now 4AM. I am going to BED, because Jay is mocking me for putting so much effort into this entry when I was half-asleep at Denny's. G'night!
you make me happy when skies are grey,
up to no good,
happy kermit flail,
ritual humiliation in the pursuit of sex,
sharing my delusions since 1973,
