I'm watching
Dodgeball on DVD (shut up) and, seeing some of the falls during a 'match', I'm reminded of a game the boys used to play at my elementary school.
They called it Ball Ball, and they used the larger red rubber balls for it. How do you play?
1. Put big red rubber ball on ground in front of you.
2. Throw yourself crotch-first at the red rubber ball.
3. Laugh maniacally with all of the other boys.
4. Repeat.
We were all about nine years old. Ball Ball was very popular. So was the Kissing Game, at least for the girls. The whole goal was to grab some hapless boy in your same grade and kiss him on the face in front of witnesses. I was pretty good at this game. In fact, we had a wooded hillside on school property and it was my greatest joy (on non-rainy days, at least) to chase a couple of boys in particular through these woods down to the playing field, and catch them at the bottom, and smooch the living daylights out of them in front of their friends. Oh yeah, and if you could make it to the baseball diamond before a girl got you, you were home free.
Took almost the whole school year before some enterprising boy discovered he could discourage being chased by the simple expedient of knocking down his pursuer.
And that, ladies and gentlemen, is the story of how I perfected my flying tackle.
