Sorry, _barnstormer... I know I said I had this done, but I lost the disk for a couple of days! Hope you like it as much as my Remus thingy.

Title: Hermione Granger
Author: soberloki
Pairing: none
Rating: G
Words: 234

The best thing about Hermione Granger is her mind, she thinks, because she’s been told that this is her greatest asset, and wanting to be pretty - needing to be - is shallow and unworthy.
She watches her roommates preen and fuss and paint their toenails and she smiles indulgently at them and they sigh and pretend not to see how sad she is to be on the outside of this as well. They’d welcome her if she joined them, Hermione knows, but she can’t bring herself to ask.
She loves her friends in complicated ways, because for this girl, nothing is simple, there are so many layers to everyone and everything. Snape could be evil or maybe just lonely, Harry might be an idiot or the sharpest boy she’s ever known - it’s impossible to tell. People are like the knots and snarls she gets in her frizzy, Muggle hair, and sometimes she despairs of ever untangling them.
Hermione likes to think she doesn’t hate, but she hates Professor Trelawney. She’d call it dislike if you asked her, or maybe say she pities the woman and her fraudulent life. The truth is, Hermione was frightened by the woman's predictions, because teachers are her gods, and when Trelawney spoke, her world trembled. This was doubt, and it was for other people, not her, never her, and it stung like winter wind and left her just as chilled.

Pimpage not necessary, but if you could point one or two people at this, I'd love feedback. *gets very shiny*
