Author: soberloki
Rating: PG. Ominous thoughts and a couple of assaults.
Summary: 20 things Lily would probably prefer nobody knew, to be perfectly honest.
Author's Notes: Written for iulia_linnea's Random Facts Fest. You can't go wrong, claiming a Potterverse character to be random with, or choosing one (or more) of the prompts to inspire you to create fic and/or art.

1. Lily's parents were enchanted by the world their youngest had gone to live in. It was so like a fairytale, they couldn't imagine it might be dangerous. Lily never told them about anything more dodgy than Transfiguration mishaps, in case they made her leave Hogwarts out of concern for her safety.

2. When Peter wept, relating his suspicions about Remus, Lily truly believed Peter couldn't really hurt anyone.

3. Lily's first kiss was with a Muggle boy over her third summer off from Hogwarts. His name was Brian (she never did learn his family name); he was a football player and irresistibly arrogant.

4. When Peter first held her newborn son, Lily felt a spike of terror. Later, she convinced herself she was only worried Peter might not support Harry's head well enough.

5. She never really understood Petunia. They weren't close when they were small, but when she knew she was about to die, Lily missed her sister fiercely.

6. She realised James Potter was mooning after her for real in sixth year, and spent an entire week posing at him every time she entered the Gryffindor commons, or any of their shared classes.

7. Severus Snape was a brooding, dark-countenanced Potions genius with a mysterious history, and she was determined to understand him. Coincidentally, her passion for Snape spanned the same time period as her love of purple nail polish and Blue Oyster Cult's Don't Fear The Reaper.

8. Until third year, Potter was just another annoying git. Lily hexed him with Furnunculus when she caught him with Sirius, Peter, and Remus, roughing up Snape. It was the start of her reputation as a defender of the weak, and she usually had to defend them from James and his friends.

9. Charms, Lily was certain, was the most brilliant class in the history of everything.

10. Lily decided at the beginning of fourth year that boys in Wizarding families were hopelessly stupid about girls; she'd certainly never seen any evidence to the contrary.

11. She'd gone from being a little girl in an exurb of London, to a student at a school of magic, to an underground fighter in a quiet (and then not so quiet) war, to an expectant mother, and life got more surreal with every new role she accepted.

12. By graduation, Lily had met Lucius Malfoy several times, and disliked him more intensely with each encounter. At graduation, she hexed him for trying to kiss her in an alcove off the entrance hall. His hair was bright blue for a week, and Narcissa Black made a point of loudly and publicly discussing her boyfriend's rejection of 'a Muggleborn', and the smallmindedness of petty revenges.

13. Marlene McKinnon taught her more minor hexes in six months of skirmishing than she learned in her entire school career, mostly by example.

14. When Lily was six, Petunia told her the story of The Princess and The Pea, and convinced her to pile all of the pillows in the house onto her older sister's bed.

15. In sixth year, two months before finally consenting to go to Hogsmeade with James, Lily gave Remus a handjob in the Library. Neither of them was quite sure what had happened when it was over, and neither of them saw the Ravenclaw fourth year in the next aisle, paging through a volume of half-forgotten love charms, frantically searching for the counterspell.

16. She had three best girlfriends in school when she was ten, but rarely saw them over summers once she began at Hogwarts. It was simpler to avoid questions, rather than try to keep up a lie.

17. The best memory of Lily's life was the day she came home from visiting Petunia and Dudley (while Vernon was at work, of course), to find both James and Harry sleeping on the lounge floor, like puppies overcome in the middle of playing.

18. 15th December 1979, Sirius arrived at the newlyweds' flat by Floo. He'd just come from Peter's new flat and he told them he'd discovered Peter had leather underwear. Somehow, Lily wasn't really surprised.

19. In first year, Lily was terrified of Hagrid, but refused to show it. By the end of the year, she was quite fond of him, but thought he was a little bit mad.

20. Lily's final, final thought was that she hated Voldemort more than anything, but she loved her tiny son even more than that.
